Thanks TBP, but they don't have them. These jets really are not available any place else. Even in aftermarket.

Issue remains. I didn't do a plug chop but I removed the plugs after the ride and saw that they're a little more rich. As expected I guess. I'm going to put the float height back to exactly stock at 21mm and test.

Not sure what else to do. I'm thinking more that it's not carbs at all...but everything else tests ok.

Could it be my exhaust that I patched up? I'd think it would show up on the plugs if it's running lean or rich, though. Really strange this is.

My money is on it not being the exhaust.

Same, and I'm glad. I wouldn't want to try and do another exhaust.

Does this at all sound alike a sync issue? Syncing these carbs is a pain. There's no vacuum ports and you can't bench sync. You need to have the carbs on the bike and put one finger in the throat of one carb while looking into the other as you twist the grip. The goal is to feel and see the the slides moving simultaneously. Not sure if you're familiar with the sync method for the CL/CB200, but it's not easy.

Rich idle but good main jet performance? It would surprise me if that was related to a sync

Actually I'm not certain now that it's a rich idle. At least the plugs didn't show it. I was assuming that because of the larger pilot jet and the symptoms I was feeling.  But yeah, the main jet and actually all throttle ranges minus the small portion I'm having trouble with is great. I'm just trying to confirm my inklings with someone who actually knows what the hell is going on.

Set the float level to the factory 21mm. Seems to be a little worse. Going to take a break on this bike for a little while. I'm going to fix my lawn mower instead, haha.

Thanks TBP, but they don't have them. These jets really are not available any place else. Even in aftermarket.

I just got a pair of 88 mains from them for my CB200, about 6 weeks ago...........

To balance, I have a couple of long, thin nails - rest them sticking out the back of the carbs, with the slide holding them lightly in place. When the slide moves, you'll see the nail move right away.
Don't forget to do this with the idle speed screws backed out all the way.

Have you messed with slide the needle at all ?

Yes, mains. They don't have slows.

I like that method, I'll try that.

Have not yet. Since the bike is stock in intake and exhaust (albeit patched) is don't see changing the clip position as helping. It's in the stock placement, currently. I'll try it, but it would surely effect more of the range and alter how well it runs up to and over 1/4 throttle.

Thanks for the help TBP

Possibly making headway. I know I said I'd be taking a break with this bike but I can't help it. I removed the air filters and it seemed to run much better. But since with this bike the filter is epoxied into the box, I had to run open mouthed carbs. Wasn't exactly smooth, but the hesitation was very much reduced and other throttle ranges seemed ok too.

These things don't exist anywhere so I've been reading about burning out the elements and glueing in foam from Uni. And I love fire induced destruction so I'm going to give it a go. Someone dial 9-1 and if this fire gets outta control, dial 1 again.

Yep, that's the generally accepted practice. :)

That's what I did on my CB200 filters.
Had to fool with things a little after that - these carbs are sensitive to intake/exhaust mods.

As an aside, I'm not sure the slow jet is an issue - once you hit about 2,000 rpm it's out of the picture.

Yeah I'm seeing that they're pretty sensitive, haha. Hopefully once this air filter situation is finished I won't have too much to do...we'll see.

Jet overlap/handoff isn't RPM related, it's throttle opening related. You could be at 7k rpm and not using your main jet if the throttle isn't opened enough.

Well, strictly speaking that's true, of course - but a little nit-picky.
It's pretty obvious that the two are directly related - open the throttle and (hopefully) the rpm increases. Can't think of how you might reach 7K without opening the throttle......

Downshift, throttle could be closed, no main jet ;)

Seems like the new air filters solved the issue. Smooth throttle across the board, finally! This little f-er was becoming annoying. Weird that during plug chops it was showing a good tan color. I'll just chalk that up to voodoo.

Now it might be a bit lean because apparently the UNI  media flows more air. I think tbpmusic was alluding to this in an above post. Going to do some more plug chops and see what I get.

Anyway, thanks for the help fells! Hopefully I can get this completely finished up quick so I can sell it with a good conscience!
