IMO Lead Acid is dead
Not IMO. They're cheap

The issue I have with them is they can leak acid.

Have you ever seen a bike with damage to the paint or exhaust? I've had many with this issue...

I've seen this damage on many CBs.  Lead Acid not only can leak, but the water tends to cook off when hooked up to a Battery Tender.  No bueno!

Same here. I've seen some nice exhausts ruined from Lead Acid, but to be fair it is usually an incorrect routing of the vent line. Thing is, with these bikes a lot of hands are in there after 40 years, so vent lines get moved. I have also had more than a few Lead Acid Batteries boil off over a Winter on a Battery Tender. I don't think Lithiums are for everyone, but AGM is pretty much fool proof, as well as plug and play.

I had battery residue in places on my bike I really did not even think was possible because of this.

On the early 750's, acid dripped on the chains which caused breakage and case damage.

Dont buy the acid!

Yes, that's a point. Make sure the vent tube is connected.

I'm open for an AGM but so far I haven't seen one with the right type terminals.

i got a motobatt. its terminals are good for the 550.
main reason for me was that i think it's good to get rid of that bucket of acid in the bike, to eliminate the risk of it leaking and ruining things.

.so it use stil acid..and is in princip ´made just like old type ,,just dont have the vent line..

..fine for sohc vho can go heigh in volts
pga the non volt sentive load system/mecanic regulator..

can somone give the 4 types of alternatives..so ve dont mix up the good/bad Things abaut the different types..my English is too bad to give informations korrekt..

.they are Sealed/gel..so no leak.
.and still acid/pb type..so no vorryes abaut overloading/burning/exploding cells..like the modern type can do..fine for sohc vho can go heigh in volts pga the non volt sentive load system/mecanic regulator

2 Sealed old type vith safty valve,,stil acid pb
3 Sealed old type closed gel..can be mounted in all direktions(safty valve) still acid pb
4 new type Sealed..not accid(lipo)..dry type cell type like computer/elek cars.(.need a elektronic regulated load system)
is there more types??

please go and komment if im vrong on this..so ve can make a optimal list of battery types..and  good and badd sides.of them

Put a Shorai in my 750 this spring. Didn't want acid leaking any more. Battery weighs a mere fraction of lead acid. Pricey though but worth it.

I also have a MotoBatt, bought one for my H1. [Scorpion was not available]

No problems, but dont care for the bright yellow though!
I've considered painting it but it's not visible with the side cover on.

My battery tender lithium battery Is absolutely awesome in my 77 cb550 with stock charging system. I did change everything except for the headlight (sealed beam still) to led. It's been 2 years and I even had it go dead once because I left the key on. I also keep it on the (regular) tender throughout the winter with NO issues at all.

But what about the terminals? I need the 'conventional' terminals.
What I don't like about AGM is that I cannot check how long that battery has already been 'operative' on the shelf. When I fill a conventional battery, that's when it's lifecycle begins and not before.

i can make a picture later or tomorrow. the stock cable connection with the screws fits without needing modification.
indeed, as you can't refill them you can't "start its life" yourself. but i prefer to not have the potential of acid eating my bike.

Order one online. You have to add the acid yourself. There's your start point.
