Chain/sprocket setup
« on: May 17, 2016, 10:23:53 AM »
Ok. had one more thought on this mesh up of a bike ive got going. i'm replacing the sprockets and chain and was thinking of just using the stock 71-76 k setup from 4into1 http://4into1.com/parts-unlimited-chain-and-sprocket-kit-honda-cb750k-1971-1976/ but with the frame being a 78 F should i be using the F stock setup? my thought is it shouldn't matter but maybe i'm wrong and the chain length is way different.

Probably requires a slightly longer chain, as swingarm is a few links longer.
Tooth count would be vastly different as the 530 links are 5/8 between pin centers and 630 is 3/4.

so going with a 630 chain would be better for this setup? looking for the cheaper option on this one.

i wouldnt run a power sucking 630.. unless your chain maintanence is nill.. then it may get slightly longer life.

Ok what I think I have
78 F frame
75 K engine
The wheel and swing arm look different then my k4 so I'm guessing it's the 78f
What do you mean by sprocket carrier?

It is the part that the sprocket is bolted to and inserts into the hub of the rear wheel.
Maybe pics of what you have would help? Do you have comstars? Or spokes?
You may need to swap sprocket carriers or get an offset front sprocket.
There are threads in here that discuss the lengths and widths of f and k swingers so with a little research you should be able to find a lot of this info quickly.

If you have 75k engine and 78f or k sprocket carrier your front and rear sprockets are out of alignment by 10mm...probably why your chain and sprockets are currently needing replacement if you or previous owners have been running the bike like that for very long
If it works good, it looks good...

Ok here's some photos I'm pretty sure it's a f bike with just a k engine. I just bought this bike as a barn find and it was sold as a super sport, because I didn't know much about the SOCH super sport I didn't think that the engine was a k at the time.

Ok so here is the deal.. want to run wide rubber .. stick with the offset.
Want to run smaller normal tire, go to pre 77 spacing..

Perfect I've got a pre 77 catch around here some where I'll switch it out. What about the chain... 530 or 630?
