first off... i'll be drinking myself silly to recover from senioritis!

tomorrow, i may clean my new bank of carbs for the 92 zx7r and install them.  original equipment on the 7r is a bank of flatslide carbs that are extremely boggy below 4-5k.  i'll be installing a set of regular diaphragm style carbs from a 96 zx7 (w/o the r).  they have a butterfly and a less "on the pipe" style slide set up.

now comes the fun part!
my 400f has not been touched for years before it ever even twinkled in my eye.  it needs so much work that i've put it off for over 3 years now.

i'll be removing unwanted weight (any of you needing parts hit me up)

the carbs need going through maybe even parts that i have not ordered but, as the bike will not run for some time... why buy them now.

the engine is not seized but needs repair especially the tranny (which i have new!   ;D  from ebay for 1 freekin dollar plus 12 shipping   ;D ;D)

so, my work is cut out...  my basement is ready... but, how do i get the multiple hundred pound motor down there all by myself???  maybe i'll ask the guys down the street to lend a hand.  i found out recently that they went to MMI just as i did.  although, they just graduated and i did that 9 years ago.

anyway, feel free to offer suggestions or let us know what you have planned motorcycle-wise for this thanksgiving break.

so, let us be thankful for the things that keep us entertained and away from the constant hum of the family!

p.s. here's a pic from my latest buying spree on ebay.  i don't think 50 bucks was bad for a supertrapp.

i've been trying to convince elizabeth to take the bikes to kansas instead of the car.  i know she would do it if there was nice weather but, we all know how weather is.  oh Scheisse... now the thread turns to weather.

SON OF A...  you ever get one of those parts that you think is gonna work and no go?  the cylinders are spaced differently on a 96 zx750 than a 92 zx750r... damn it.

so, no one wants to help get the 400 motor in the basement?

I wonder if the carb bodies are similar enough that you could make them work using the linkage and fuel tubes from the original carbs?

Finally tore into it... top end has a nice coat of oil on everything and it all seems to have held together so far.

cylinder head isn't budging though.  is there a good place to pry?

EDIT: yes there is... right in the front/center where there is extra material just for that.

thanks for the help heffay... no problem.

i moved this over to the tech forum to try and get some responses from the techies.

paul~  got some wall art for ya... too bad its all yammies and gixxers.  its all i had at the moment.

anyway, things are looking good so far and in fact i'm considering not going any further.  when i rotate the crank at the "special nut" there are no difficult turning spots and i snicked thru all the gears and they all engage and go in and out fairly easily.

so, take a look at these pics and see if you see anything out of the ordinary that i'm missing... yeah, there is a lot of cleanup but the inside of the bike seems to be pretty good except for sooty combustion chambers... no real scoring that i've noticed yet... there is a minor amount where the camshaft sits on the cyl. head but, not bad either.

suggestions?

so, i just remembered there was no oil filter on this bike while it sat in the elements... i guess i'll be tearing it down all the way.

that will give me a chance to compare the spare tranny.
