Dyna 2000 ignition problem
« on: May 21, 2016, 02:04:43 PM »
I've been using a Dyna 2000 ignition system and covered over 2000 miles with no problem, but recently the bike (K9, you'll find a picture of it on this forum somewhere with one of Mikes billet cylinder blocks and a Bike of the month winner) has been cutting out on cylinders 2 and 3. This first started on a very hot day after a journey of around 10 miles. Leaving the bike to cool for a few minutes it starts up on all 4 and will run just fine for a while before cutting out on cylinders 2 and 3. I've checked for loose wires, but found nothing wrong. Could it be the coil that feeds cylinders 2 and 3 that's playing up? Anyone had similar problems? The Dyna coils in use are the gray ones.

I had a Dyna S that would cut out when it got hot.  One of the pickups went bad

Swap your coils around and see what happens.

I wouldn't use anything less than a 3 ohm coil unless you have Ander's charging system. Those gray coils are 2 ohm. Not saying that is the problem but just something to keep in mind. Like Jerry said I'd switch coils.

dyna failure stories are so common that i stopped counting the posts.... grab any 80's-90's 4 cyl igniton box + rotor + pickups. and you are sorted.

i use either GSXR (single pickup) or GPZ (double pickup) stuff on all of my 4 cyl bikes, race or street, never had a failure.
