Stuck away from home - troubleshoot help

74 CB750.   New harness (partsnmore for a K0). New handlebar switches (also partsnmore for a K0).   I've got at least 750 miles on the set up.   

I'm out riding in BFE with no frickin internet.  Currently, I'm posted up at a parking lot and am getting Internet.  But, I'll be offline for the next 3-4 hours.

Bike cut out.  It was the fuse.  Have many spares - keeps popping them.  Looked in the headlight bucket - all normal, nothin hot.    I took the right handlebar switch apart - nothing jumping out at me.  As soon as I put the switch to "ON" it pops the fuse.  If I disconnect the blk/white wire in the bucket, it will not pop the fuse, but of course will not fire the bike. 

Can anyone think of a way I could bypass the switch so I can ride it home?  I do have a length of wire in my tool roll.  Or, anything else I could try before I get somebody to come get me ?   

I'll be back on-line around 10ish

I had a issue with the main fuse piping because of a short on the ignition positive that runs through the start stop switch try running a new wire to the ignition coil hot

My K1 was blowing fuses, turned out the rear brake light switch was grounding out.

Check all wiring, good luck GJ.

If we look at the wireing diagram they wire that you disconnected only goes to the coils so my first move would be to jump that strait to the ignition wire if it still blows then the wire is shorted and you can just replace it.  No the problem is that honda used a odd sized bullet conector at 3.9 mm and you will need a open berral crimper.  What you can do is replace them with standard crimp conectors to get you home hen do a proper fix when you are home and have time to wait for new conectors.  Your first move should be to follow that wire to the coils and see if you can find any damage.  When mine whent it was melted to the frame close to the coil, if you are lucky you might find where the wire is bad and could just heat shrink it to get home then replace it when you are  home.

 I'd jump from the black/white in the headlight bucket directly to where the black/white usually plugs in at the coils.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Or, disconnect the black wire going to your horn.  Connect the horn black to the two black/white wires - one on each coil.  With the key on the bike should run.  Kill switch and horn will not function but you should get home.

I love you guys.  Got her home this morning.  Used the wire from the horn as suggested.  Gonna go through everything this afternoon.

I had the same problem due to a new cheap aftermarket rear brake switch. The wire with clear insulation around the plug connection glided down the wire and plug had contact with engine case. Fuse blew when using the brake.
Other side has 12V constantly, ground contact her will short regardless of brake used

This is a design flaw by Honda. Main fuse should not blow due to short circuit in brake light circuit. Better if the rear light 5A fuse feed brake light too. I had idea to feed with the brake switches with the additional brown wire seen in head light bucket.

- It would be nice to know exact what the problem was.  Right handle bar switch /harness?

Well, there's definitely a short in the blk/white wire somewhere in the handlebar.  Switch is coming off today.  Yuck

Update:  aftermarket bars that I had to drill.  Looks like I had left a burr.  Insulation had a good slice and left a pretty good chunk of wire exposed.  Can't believe it didn't happen sooner.  Must have settled and made the contact.

Get a debuting tool if you are drilling alot of holes it will make nice clean holes for pass throughs and hen if there is space a rubber grommet will protect the wire
