Motogadget M-Unit & Ricks Regulator/Rectifier Help
« on: June 30, 2015, 02:51:25 PM »
So i have a '75 CB750K5 and i just recently purchased a motogadget m-unit and ricks regulator/rectifier combo. I have most of the bike wired, all the lights and buttons work, now I'm moving onto the starter/charging system. Im a bit confused about how to wire the reg/rec, I know the black cable goes in with lock, but I have 7 other wires I'm not sure where they go, 3 yellow, 1 red, 2 green (each are a different gauge wire) and 1 white, any help would be greatly appreciated so i can get this thing on the road, thanks!

The 3 yellow wires go to your stator, It is 3 phase AC voltage, doesn't matter which order just yellow to yellow. Red wire goes to the positive on the battery. The small green wire hooks to the green wire that goes to the field coil, the heavy green wire goes to ground, and the white wire hooks to the white wire for the field coil. These wires will come out of the left side cover. This is as I remember so hopefully someone will second this to make sure i'm correct. Anyway it gives you a place to start.

Wow thanks guys, yall make it seem so easy....

Cal you are one knowledgeable man. As for if the harness the only original piece I'm really using is the starter solenoid and for controls I'm using all new more simplified controls. Other than that everything has been done from scratch. I have bought a lithium battery to be specific it's an antigravity 8 cell, I'll be sure to check and double check where I put the sensing wire because of the lithium. At the moment I'm not home so when I get home tonight I'll follow your instructions and get back to ya, I'll be sure to post some pictures also thanks a bunch!

So question. I used the aux  output of the m unit to what I believe is the "sensing wire". Everything runs fine drove it to a shop to have them give it a once over. The shop is telling me my charging system isn't working correctly because it's only charging to 12V, they are telling me it should be charging at 14V,is this correct?

My thought is that since the aux output is telling the regulator to be at a fixed 12V then the system will only charge at 12Vs constantly and never 14V ever,  correct ? Or am I wrong.

Could anyone help please and thank you.

I did draw a picture of the schematic wiring I did if that helps.

I'm using a LiFe antigravity battery

Dammit ha I'm wrong.   Ok thanks calj.  The bike is currently at a shop. I got a bit busy at work and I'm a total newb to this so I wanted a shop to take a look and double check some things.

I'll relay the info and if they can't fix it I'll start tinkering with it again.

Thanks cal you truly are awesome
