« on: May 18, 2016, 03:50:01 PM »
Recently acquired a K0, 20k mi. Is there a process of cleaning outside of motor with 40+ years of weather without tearing the engine totally apart to do it. Bought it right but don't wan't to get into engine if possible. thanks

Pictures please!  ;D
Along with elbow grease and a few different soft brushes, I prefer Zep purple commercial de-greaser for the heavy road grime.
Everything else cleans up pretty well with simple green.
You can also try GUNK engine cleaner, S100, etc...

I taped scothbrite to a paint mixer stick to get between the fins. Brakeclean or WD40 for lube depending on the dirt.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Old household paint brushes also get in between the fins nicely, although I use those mostly for basic washing, not heavy degreasing and grunge removal.

How bad is the motor now, and how clean do you want it to be when you're done?
