CB 550K Clutch cover
« on: May 19, 2016, 07:49:05 AM »
I took off my clutch cover on my 1978 CB 550K and I was moving the clutch adjuster arm and watching the inside arm move. I think I moved it too far and the lobe popped forward.

I tried reinstalling it but it does not have any tension and the lobe just pops forward easily. I apologize for not knowing what these parts are called I do not see them in the Clymer manual or CMSNL. I'll take pictures if needed.

Edit: First photo is what I mean by "lobe" and second is what I mean by "inside arm" Please help thanks.

when the cover is off the bike then you can, indeed, turn that "lobe" past the arm.
there is a rod with 2 balls attached (not what you think!!), that pokes out of the clutch centre. it will apply pressure from the clutch springs against the matching indentation in the arm. after you install the cover the "lobe" will stay behind the arm unless there is another problem.
so put the lobe back where it belongs, put the cover back on and it should be all good.

Thanks for your response. I didn't think that could be it because it was under tension when I first took it off.

It actually should be under tension. When you spun that rod the other 'arm' of the spring must have come off the lever.

Put it back like this picture but rotate the cam lobe so it's under the lever and can lift it.
