another 4-4 question
« on: May 22, 2016, 08:16:49 PM »
I was on ebay and was quite pleased to find a lot of "Genuine" Honda 4-4 sets and individual pipes for sale, however due to my suspicious nature, I can't help but wonder where they are coming from.
Guys seeing all the repops and shaking out the rafters before the price drops?     Someone printing honda wrappers and boxes?
Also more headers than I've noticed in a long time, I like the Delkevic pipes, also a few jardine 4-2 muffler sets which were unobtainium for a long time.

I'm going 20 miles to check out a muffler set and stock seat this week.

Has anyone been able to compare the quality of different sources of reproduction exhaust's? I suspect many of them come from the same manufacturer but no one really seems to know.  My no number set came from Mach IV on ebay. No real source into on the paperwork or boxes.

I've had 2 sets of re-pop 341s from David Silver Spares.  Nothing beats new, shiny 4 into 4 exhaust.
The fit is good.  The only difference I see is the bend of the header - it is a bit less organic/fluid curve than the originals.  Took me a while to even notice.   The chrome doesn't seem as deep as some original pipes I've had over the years, but still looks great.  I'd buy another set.   They also seem quieter than originals - not by much.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Thanks Greenjeans, I'm waiting for a guy I met over the weekend to dig out a set of originals, he's taking too long and is getting a call tomorrow. Honda pipes would be very cool especially on the K4 I picked up recently. If not, DSS will get the call.

CB500 owners may be interested to see this:

Italy (and Spain?) used to have several manufacturers like Sito, Busso, MIVV and Mecadapo. They also had muflers that could slip on the headers and made it effectively a 4 - 2 exhaust system. Marmitte and silenziatore are Italian words for exhausts. Mecadapo looked like this on a CB550K3: http://www.cmsnl.com/community/vehicles/Honda/CB_550_K3/1978/1910.html
MIVV on a CB350F looked and sounded like this:

Sound little less than stock but better with baffles in??,interior of pipes seem to be different as I remember, back BTD it was all 4-1 stockers hanging in garages ever were in 1973
Just finished 1976 K-6 still a nice bike to ride after 40 years, sweet motor,
