Couple of cool bikes in the bike lot at work today
« on: May 31, 2016, 04:43:57 PM »
The sun is out in Seattle, so the fair weather riders are coming in - lots of new bikes in the lot this morning.

Don't know who, but someone came in on a Honda CFR 1000 - all mudded up.  One of the few dual sports at work that look like they actually see mud (mine never does :( ).  It is a BIG bike.  Really tall and lanky, but did I mention it was tall?  Huge.  Inexplicably Honda chose to put a dirt bike seat on it - which means it's probably pretty uncomfortable to sit on.

Another guy brought in a sweet BMW.  Had to drag the model out of him - K100, 1984, the bike looked like it had just rolled off the factory floor.  Totally clean.

Anyone else see any uncommon bikes out on the road now that the sun is out?

A sweet 2016 Thruxton R was up at the Cruisin' Colby Car Show this past weekend up in Everett.
Not on display.  The guy parked it in the middle of a row of Harleys  ;D

After the OP mentioning seeing a K100 I spotted this parked next to me at work today as I was leaving. It looks like it may have been cool at one time but it's obvious it's seen better days.

Man that bike has been USED!

Can't think of a better compliment.

Got to have love for BMW's engineering.

Still trying to get my hands on a 60s airhead, beautiful bikes.

I know some folks who ride BMWs a lot and they keep their bike looking very nice.  Neglect will catch up with you in time.  At least they aren't doing the murdered out look on the BMW yet...or the Navy approach to throwing paint on everything every couple years...

All this talk about BMWs is getting harder and harder to resist...

I've seen only a few BMW bikes in a similar condition to that old K. It mostly looks weathered from neglected storage. From use, they don't seem to show much signs normally, with the exception of some oxidation on the cases. I've owned several, and still do. Wonderful machines and I have not encountered a bike more capable (surely there are equals) to soak up miles and provide you the comfort.

I had 2 especially high mileage bikes, both with over 200k miles other clocks when I sold them on. Current one only has a meager 35k and the airhead project bought with 55k on its clock, looks forward to a whole new adventure if I ever get it done.
