Installing 4 into 4 78' 550
« on: May 27, 2016, 03:34:10 PM »
Hello there,

I'm attempting to install a stock 4 into 4 exhaust on my 1978 cb550. I can't for the life of me figure out how it is supposed to fit around the kickstand. I've looked around, there are examples of the earlier 550s but I can't find any for the 77-78. From pictures it almost looks like the kickstand goes between the two pipes. But they bolt to the same bracket, so I was trying to install it all as one unit, is this wrong?

Cheers

It does go through the pipes. I think you can thread it in with the pipes on the bracket.

Thanks Dave! (and carnivorous chicken)! You were right! Installed like a glove with minimal paint scraping (on the second try because the first one I put the exhaust joint collars on backward  ::)). The little things are getting to me as I reach the end of this 1 year endeavor haha. Gotta say I'm glad I installed the 4 into 4 though!

I forgot how nice those pipes look when they're in good shape. Mine were definitely not like yours.

Honestly I didn't think they would be that nice either. I'm pretty impressed. It was the PO who bought these and had them in a box that's why I decided to go stock. But unfortunately the right side ones aren't as pretty. So I'll ride them until I can find two nice right ones.
