Cell phone mount for CB550 recommendations
« on: May 28, 2016, 08:10:17 PM »
So I'm looking to mount my phone (iPhone) to my CB550K 1975 in order to use it's GPS mapping capabilities. I found this website:
http://www.rammount.com/activity/motorcycle-bases#forkstem-base

They have a system that mounts to the steering stem. I like the idea of mounting a phone to that location but can't figure out if it's compatible with a CB550. Would I need to drill a hole through the steering stem nut to use this? Any thoughts on this?

Anyway. If anybody has recommendations or photos to share of how they mount their phone it would be good to see.

Just one: you're scarin' me! I don't usually have the time to check anything else but the road when riding? I pull over for things like "location ID".

yeah, the jacket pocket is best using audible directions via a bluetooth headset in the helmet or wired if you can find them...  Problem is if you are on the bike and it's loud (aftermarket exhaust) then you might possibly have trouble hearing it.

If you gotta have a RAM mount then the Torque Base is probably best.

i have a GPS that came with a handlebar u-bolt mount. works fine for me, positioned as below (sorry, no better pic at this moment).

the GPS does support voice instructions or even phone calls through a bluetooth headset but i never use them. don't want to be distracted by trying to hear someone telling me things while i'm riding. the screen i can choose myself when to look at or not, and the visual directions let me anticipate better what i have to do next.

My 750 has no baffle in the exhaust so it is rather loud but I can here just fine

I got a ram knock off on eBay for like $13 and it included a USB port. It's not mounted yet but I've clipped my phone in it and it seems very solid.
I researched the stem mount when I purchased mine and you would have to drill a hole or find a different nut that's not domed.

Check out RAM's mirror hole mount. Seems like a neat solution. You can get an adapter so that you can still use your mirror, too!

I might get one for my gopro, since I have bar-end mirror.

You could also use one of these ball mounts http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-367U for your handlebar clamp!

Rokform. Yes it works. I've had the magnet case for years.

On the subject of mounts has anyone tryed the ram mount x-grip? I want to stick a wireless charging pad on it to keep my galaxy s5 charged on my touring bike.  I'd then mount it to the dash above the guadges (freeway it would be nice to have the interchange display right next to my speedometer)
