Points needed very little adjustment.
If you've adjusted the gaps, you have also changed the timing as a consequence. If your timing is OK and the bike runs fine and as you like it, you might as well run what you've got now and see when you'll need to replace. The picture of your plate looked OK with everything nicely in the middle of the adjustment range, so what's the problem? There are members here that run Daiichi and say they have no problems. BTW, you've reminded me I myself have to dress the points (one or two strokes with a contactbreaker file is enough). As a rule of thumb if voltage drop over the points (when closed) is > 0,2 Volts, points are bad.

And this, kids, is why you always start off with a full tune-up.   ;D

Yes, agree.  And since the bike has been in my possession a total of about 3 weeks or so, I've made great progress considering I bought it not running. A great learning experience and makes me want to fill my shop with many more.

Can I ask you a personal question? ('Well, if it's not too personal.') Are you a mormon?

Do you know off hand what size the little screws are that mount that points to the plate?  I'd like to replace them with Allen headed ones as they are getting a little mangled up

A set like that will set you back € 5,- in Holland. http://shopfourdeel.nl/imbusboutjes-bolkop/72/imbusset-voor-ontsteking-4-cylinders.html but I don't know if he's willing to ship overseas. One of these days I'll be at his shop and will ask him to make a set of small stainless steel allen bolts that can replace the 16 crossheads that hold the 4 floatchambers.
