I dont think it helps that we further separate bikers from drivers by calling them "cagers." Its a mostly pejorative term that does nothing to enhance relationships between the two.

We are all the same, some just use different modes of transportation. The "us vs them" mentality is a lot of what bedevils society.

The driver was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon (the car), leaving the scene of an accident that involved injury, and one count of being a habitual traffic offender.

I hope he enjoys being pleasured by inmates in the Florida penitentiary.

I disagree.  You don't hear so much about bikes running over other bikes (or simply running them off the road) in a fit of road rage, or much about other bikers not looking for other bikers on the road, or of bikers texting and hitting other bikers.  Unfortunately, IT IS the mode of transportation -- an enclosed vehicle -- that allows some drivers to not pay attention to the road and other smaller vehicles.

How long have you been riding?
For me, having an us vs them mentality keeps me and my bike off the pavement. It's about being aware. Bikes and cars are not the same and that's the point. Don't make the term cager more than what it is.

"cage" has a subtle connotation of animals or trapped person. They arent "cagers" they are drivers, just like we are motorcyclists. There is no hiding the fact that "cagers" is a derogatory term.
I drive as well, and I would not like to be called a "cager." its just stupid separatism and words have power.

I guess you didnt see the part where the biker hit the truck with his fist *FIRST*. Not that it excuses what the driver did, but in these crazy times, why would an ant provoke an elephant? DUMB!

I hope you don't think that a fist on a hood and running someone over with a car are the same thing. One certainly doesn't justify the other, but in most states, a fist on the hood is barely a crime at all unless it makes a dent, then usually a misdemeanor.  But running someone down with a vehicle is clearly a felony.

Now, I've been riding for around 30 years.  I have spent about 12 years working at a large dealer.  I have NEVER heard the term "cager" outside of this forum.  Spell check doesn't even  think it's a word.

I have NEVER heard of any biker actually addressing a driver as a "cager" as a put-down, have you?
Its certainly an esoteric reference, and I've yet to see when its used that it was meant tenderly or respectfully. But it doesn't upset me when used either.

Glad the driver of the vehicle is off the road and Central FL is safer for it. Wilbur and Fridgeraider live not too far away and I'd hate to think this troll was still "at large" with a vehicle at his disposal. Hopefully, remanded until trial is the next update on this dirtbag.

People it's a cager because a car has a protective cage around it, frame body, a-pillar,b-pillar etc. It's not a derogatory term, there is no underlying meaning about caged animals. Holy crap, get a life.

When I started in bikes around 1972, they were called cagers.
If I go to a swapmeet in the winter I tell people i will be arriving by cage..

Its called vernacular.. in a trade I used work in we had what was known as a Schoolmarm, and everbody working those areas knew what it meant. This is the first time I think anyone mentioned being offended buy Cager...... Most people understood the inference that you were enclosed by most cars, and on bikes you were not.
If the biker vernacular bothers you so , maybe you dont fit in... or ever will..

Now Shoolmarm, twas not that politically correct... does anyone on here know what it means ?

AMEN!  I never heard of this term being anywhere near derogatory.
People see things in a different light as others, and I guess a little education in some areas is required.

What in the flaming #$%* is going on Cager is a bad word goodnes me that's strange, I can think of quite a few terms for car drivers that are more offensive than cager the other thing is I would recommend, that some use a different brand of fabric softener for their gauchies, binding is a #$%*, after all.

Something like that has happened before, and almost immediately the headlines read "Biker gang beats up car driver". Nevermind the fact that the car ran over a couple bikes, drove all over the pavement just to get ahead of the lot, pure BS roadrage. There is no winning really, just do your best and be safe out there. Pretty much BELIEVE that everyone is out to kill you.

I wond if you are ferrying to the incident in NYC about 2 years ago, where a guy in his Range Rover with wife and children drove over a bike? That entire episode was provoked by that very "biker gang" for their holliganism, antics, and essentially closing down a public thoroughfare with their stunts and what not. The "road rage" of the driver occurred after some of the riders surrender his vehicle smashing at the windows with helmets, fists, and what not. His evasion did have home ride over a parked motorcylce in the middle of the street, no rider mounted.

There is absolutely no similarity to this situation where the driver intended to run off the road then run over a rider and his passenger.
