Duster, BLM is Bureau of Land Managment. That federal agency that "manages" all federal park land and wilderness tracts. A bunch of dolts who could not manage a 2-car funeral

Leave it to my buddy to make jokes. If I was racing at Bonneville, my black life would matter a lot to me. But since BLM means Bureau of Land Management in this case, its their call.

The SCTA has requested that people not pour any more coal on the fire. They are trying to negotiate with BLM and get racing back on the schedule for this year.

So please let's not write any hateful e-mails to BLM.

I'd like to go someday.

For a while I have been contemplating the LONG road trip out to Bonneville from the Northeast with two or more cb750 based entrants(bucket list kind of thing), but keeping up with the salt/racing situation out there in the last few years isn't exactly encouraging. $:-\$

As mad as we might get at BLM, as racer's and left to our own discretion, we'd race their until the damn place looked like a rutted out wagon trail. The best thing anyone can do is support those sanctioning bodies that spread have clout and ask them the best method of helping. I never had a desire to go there before although I used to read many stories about the records that were set. Not until I joined this forum and saw the builds people were actively involved in did I start to consider going as a spectator. It would be a shame to loose such a legendary motorsports venue. Lets keep hoping.

I feel the same way. Judging from the official statements and press releases from the Bureau of Land Management who "owns" and controls the salt flats, it to me has shown a fairly consistent willful neglect on the issue. This along with a healthy dose of reinventing the reality of the situation(often the rose colored glasses syndrome) when presenting their view of what is going on.

It is a government run deal so it is easy to get frustrated with the inevitable.

So combine complicated issue, likely unbreakable long term agreement with the potash mining company, and a government agency calling the shots, it's hard for me to feel too confident in the near future. I sure hope that it can get straightened out, and we can have the salt flats healthy again. I really would like to go in the not too distant future.

That Hot Rod link seems to go nowhere....Like HR pulled the story?

From what I have read the BLM have not canceled the 2016 SCTA racing permits....only threatened to so.

This should get interesting. I was not planning on racing this year, but hoping to be able to in the future.

Thanks George................According to published data, the salt was a little over 3-feet thick BEFORE THE MINING BEGAN. Now it is almost nothing. But with modest grading, compacting, dragging, and a lot of sunshine with VERY LITTLE OR NO RAIN for the next few months, the courses can be prepared.

BTW.........on the other side of those little mountains in the distance to the NW of the Bonneville area, good salt exists that could be used for racing..........the problem is its something more than 30 miles from Wendover so access and support facilities would be challenging.

I plan to leave on August 23rd...........I have one seat left to fill in my van..........and maybe room for a bike or 2 in my 20-foot trailer. Anyone interested?

Can you give me a basic rundown of the current records cb750 based machines are able to compete in at the BUB event?

Both in 750cc and 1000cc, production frame based and altered. Specifically in the non streamlined classes.

George...........More than a dozen opportunities (classes) are available for North American (AMA) records. The low-hanging fruit are in the CLASSIC category because it limits the field to bikes produced from 1956 through 1980. In the 750cc size............Production Classic Gas is open

.........Modified Classic Gas (M-CG) is held by a Japanese rider by the name of T. Honda with a street-legal cafe-style bike at 125-mph.............I hope to up that speed

. You could run a very similar bike and bring your own Aviation Fuel to run in the fuel category (M-CF) and set a record because none exist. I also plan to run in the partial streamline (MPS-CG) and the record is open. If you alter the frame around the motor (raking the neck and extending the swing-arm are permitted in the M class) and/or do a significant motor revision (stroker) the bike would be in the Special Construction (A) class and several opportunities are available in the 125- 170 mph speed ranges. Each of the M and A classes would also allow for turbo-charging such as M-CBG = Modified Classic Turbo (or Super) Gas...........and the records are mostly open.

In the 1000cc size...........all of the above regarding available classes except production.............The current M-CG record is held by T. Mills (CB750 with a 915-kit) at 135-mph. Several opportunities exist to set records at well below 200-mph.............including the side-car categories. You can study the list of records on the supplemental rules page from the AMA available on the BMST (no longer BUB) web page.

On a positive note for the Canadians, here is a Canadian built chassis (Dennis Curtis, CMR) doing it's thing at Bonneville, 1974. Turbo and all.

Did anyone notice that Dennis said "HOPE"?! I saw the inside of Mr Honda's engine while I helped instruct them how to take it apart for inspection. Their builder was not there. Totally intentional on my part

Note the rare Curtis mag, I think a fellow named Green owned it...
Heard about a possible Bonnie CB 750 here in town, but never got to see it..feel it could have been that bike..
