1980 Honda CB650 with 550 Carbs? Help!
« on: June 03, 2016, 03:50:22 PM »
I bought a 1980 Honda CB650 for next to nothing of an acquaintance who stated the carbs needed to be rebuilt. The numbers on the bike correctly indicate that the bike is an '80 CB650, however, upon removing the carbs from the bike, they look nothing like what I believe an '80 CB650 should. And, with my best guess, appear to be from a mid '70s CB550. I admittedly know next to nothing about motorcycles, though, I'm very mechanically inclined. Two questions- 1- Can anyone confirm the model these carbs belong to? 2-Will they work if repaired on an '80 CB650? (explanations welcome).
Photos of the carbs in question attached.

Thanks for the help.

Those are for a 550. Don't know if they will work. I'm thinking sure, why not, with any amount of time anything will work with lots of modifications. Buy yourself 650 carbs.

650 carbs can be hard to find parts for, which may be why somebody swapped in 550 carbs.

The carbs will have part numbers on them, typically engraved on the flange edge.
