Kick-start spring?
« on: June 05, 2016, 11:24:22 AM »
Assembling my crankcase today and can't seem to figure out how the kick-start spring sits. This seems way loose, obviously. Bad spring, or do I have to wrap it full around to pre load it?

It's not on. See the left on left side of case. Attaches there

Hondaman's book says there are several CB750's that have his blood on them because of that spring. As I recall it is indeed quite a bit preloaded. I don't remember where it mounts, but I do have pictures of every linkage during disassembly somewhere....

Sorry, but huh? Not sure what you're saying. There's a lip on the spindle that one side attaches to - I'm assuming that right angle on the spring sits on the crankcase where that ledge sticks out?

I cheated and compressed it in my bench vise, then tied it up using some wire, installed, then snapped and pulled out the wire.

Not sure if this is much help, but the best pic I could find from my old build, this is how it looks assembled
