If it ain't broken...

Some of you may remember that I had been tempted to mount the 4-4 as ment and as described by Sohron. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,152931.msg1747995.html#msg1747995 Although my exhausts by mistake had both brackets on the outside of the frame eye, they have worked perfectly for over 20 years, so there was no real need. Now that I've mounted them accordingly to the book, the balance tubes of the left set are at least 1 cm off, the rubber is gone and the exhaust produces far too much noise. This because the brackets were distorted a bit due to my mistake when I put them on. BTW, makes you admire how silent they were before. Still puzzling what to do. Tweaking the brackets didn't help, so either I have to order new brackets, or I have to improvise some kind of an in between oval rubber to dampen the sound because I want my bike silent again. Wished I never started it.

Maybe I could slide some rubber or maybe cork in between the tubes. Has to be snug though, so it stays in place. Would be better even with an opening in just that part that will come where the openings of the tubes are still above eachother, if you know what I mean.
