Raul CB750K1 - RIP
« on: June 05, 2016, 04:55:41 PM »
It is with great sadness that I write this to let everyone know that Raúl Gallego of Madrid, Spain, a member here since 2005, lost a year long battle with cancer and passed away on May 26th.  He is missed.

I wanted to add something that Raul's brother passed along:

"He reserved a bottle of fine whisky for the day of his cremation and wanted his friends to toast and drink for him. We did it last Thursday.  Wherever you are, you are invited to join us!"

Sad news.  From his last posts here it is clear he went out with his head held high.  A fine example for the rest of us.  Thanks, Raul, for all the fine conversation.

I will raise a toast tonight to one of the finest people I have met here. People like Raul set the tone of this community. A true gentleman in every respect.

Safe Journey Raul...... You went on your terms, and did it in a manner that made others proud to know you, and the World, A better place for those you met..

Just went through this with my brother who passed Mar 22, he went out of his way to not make those around him uncomfortable...
We Celebrated his life May 21, would have been his birthday..... Didn't see any bourbon, but we had his fishing boat full of beer....really lovely way to see him off (no funeral requested), was about 250 people there...

Farewell Raul, you were one of my first "Forum Pals" here, I loved your sense of humour, and was proud to call you a friend. I'll eat some Vegemite toast and wash it down with whisky in your honour tonight. RIP mate.
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

RIP Raul.  Your fighting spirit was an inspiration to me, and I am sure to others as well.  You refused to give up or feel sorry for yourself even with the odds against you, you carried on.  You will be missed.

Just saw this I have mixed feelings, on one hand I hope the pain was not too bad and now it's over, on the other hand greatly saddened by another one of the good ones passing I hope at least ten of the bad ones are taken to compensate. Rip amigo. And yes I will scrounge a dram of rare single malt tonight.

I don't even know what to say right now....this is really sad. I just bought something from Raul, and he was so nice about everything....shipping it to Canada from Spain. He asked me to tell him when I got it. I got it last week and sent him a message thanking him. I hope he read it.

My thoughts go out to his family.

Un abrazo muy fuerte mi amigo.

I just bought something from Raul

I did as well, and we swapped several PMs recently. Raul spent nearly 40 days in the hospital, then came home for a couple weeks. Raul leaves his wife and two children, ages 10 and 12.

His brother Jorge assisted with the sale and shipping of his CB750K1 parts manual. I am so happy to have it, it is a reminder to me of my first job 48 years ago at the Honda parts counter, and also a reminder of Raul and others here at SOHC4 who have helped me with my CB.

He was in good spirits at all times and considerate enough to invite us share a toast after his passing.
