that looks a nice bike yossef , brent you dont have to make any hasty decisions but this is not the first time you have mentioned retiring  so i think you are edging that way. i will warn you that stoping racing is very very difficult , i had little choice as my right arm was smashed to bits but god those first couple of years after racing where hard !

Simon, you will be chuffed to bits to hear that a morini 500 is still showing it's tail to all the 500 pantahs, 500 sohc fours and even some 750's.... stone age pushrod /parallel valves gear and all....

Brent, will repeat what you already heard from me,
With all what you achieved in these comeback years, you have all the right to give yourself some piece of mind... not many have the luxury to retire as champions!

It's cool to see something like a Morini around these parts. It should be appreciated to see it ridden so well. We have a member with a 31/2 but it hasn't been out in a few years.

I've been looking around at chest protectors that offer rib protection. I suppose the problem would be mobility the more armour there is! If anyone has good info on that kind of gear let me know.

I have the winter to decide my future, I've experienced some of those "retirement sentiments" moons ago. There's always something left to prove, the personal importance of experiencing that "on the edge" we feel. It's a damn hard process, due to injury or otherwise. Thanks though Yossef, coming from you that helps.

We'll stand by for the report from Alan after this weekend, hope the weather co-operates. Everyone's season is winding down here.

I used an Impact Safe-T C-008AW after my accident in 2012 Brent.
It was a good bit of kit. Light and not to bulky.
You send them your measurements and they make to fit.
I'm happy to chase up their contact details, just let me know.

Cheers,
Brian

I picked up this body armor in 1982, shortly after buying my CR480. The other chest protectors available at the time were padded bibs in comparison. ;) It allowed a surprising amount of movement, except for the top of the shoulders near the collar, which interfered with the chin part of my full-face helmet until I trimmed the plastic back. Just for grins, I tried it on today, and sat on my Seeley in various positions to see if it would hinder movement, and it didn't.

Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

nice try scottly, but road racing rib protectors look quite different. they have become a usual sight in the pits nowadays, gotta see if they can fit under my current leathers, am afraid they would require a new set to fit under comfortably.
and oh, CR480.... had a short try decades ago, still etched in my mind as the most terrifying 5 minutes of my life!

I hope you have a speedy recovery Brent. The question of when to hang it up is a tough one and one I try to avoid thinking about.

I replaced the worthless foam chest pads in my leathers with hard armor a few years ago when I got banged up. Not as good as the full-body stuff, but it helps.

not really simon, with my current health condition i actually went back to my weight from when i was 18 and active as a track & filed athlete: 78kg for 1.89m tall, that's pretty skinny. not that i was fat before but my leathers are perfect fit as is now, so need to try a chest protector and see if i can bend at all...

Season ender for the Washington State crowd. Started off pretty depressing with rain forecast for most of Saturday. In fact, it was a real soaker. John and I sat out the morning practice sessions but Chris went out, because he's an animal and he prefers adverse conditions. Of course he immediately complained about a wet crotch, served him right!! Stopped raining shortly before our first race and John and I decided to suit up. The track was really wet so I'm fairly cautious on the sighting lap. Light goes out, Chris is gone and I'm chasing. Been here before. He's really comfortable slipping around so I figure best to follow him a bit. He's really slipping, but I'm not. Building my confidence a bit and I can see a couple places I can get the drive on him out of a corner. I pass him about 3 times coming out of T4 just to have him get me on the brakes on the outside entering T5. Plenty of bikes had crashed in T5 that day so I just didn't have the confidence to enter that hot. I almost get him a couple times out of T7, we're side by side, but he holds it hard through T8 and gets me into the T9 carrousel. On lap 4 he runs wide through T7, goes off track and I know I've got him now. Perhaps I slowed down to watch the inevitable train wreck in progress, or he's just faster in the dirt. I'm right alongside him but he miraculously enters the track ahead of me!! But he's all jacked up entering the carrousel so I get under him and finally pass him for good and take the win. I find out later John bogged on the start, clutched it and pulled a wheelie, then had some riders pass him only to crash right in front of him.

Rained on and off all night so we wake up to a damp track. We get lucky with no rain the rest of the day and some sun breaks here and there. I'm in pole position but I'm quickly relegated to 3rd entering T1. Obviously I need to work on my starts. I can't believe this next pass works, except John told me it does. I go around the outside of John in T2, a big sweeping high speed left hander. I'm thinking no way is this going to work while I'm in the turn, but it does. John is right behind Chris so perhaps he can't accelerate as easily, and I'm already higher up in the RPM's, having gone the long way around. I think it has to be the right conditions to work though. The next turn, and the next pass, I had already warned Chris about not letting it happen. He has a nice outside line into a tight right hander, but I cut under him to the inside and shut him down for the drive into the immediate left hander that follows. John pops into neutral in that corner and runs off track. John and Chris have a good battle behind me but I score another win and the championship.

I feel really good about my season. I showed up for every round and my bike ran great. John skipped round 5 so he could go to Utah for the AHRMA round. I know the results would be different if John had been at round 5. I can't thank John enough for his advice on bike setup, motor building, racing techniques and just being a general great guy and awesome friend to me.

Chris and I followed each other around a lot this year, pushing each other to go faster. We joked about using the shake and bake strategy. Here we are on the podium doing the shake and bake fist bump. I'm wearing my RC shirt. Seemed fitting.

Congratulations Allen- well done this season! Don't cut yourself short, the results may have been the same even if I attended Round 5 with your lap times plummeting as they have.

well, from 2014, not exactly up to date, but a pretty decent coverage of the 500-750 mixed class race in the italian championship. plenty of sohc's out there, quite nice entertaining battle between marco leardini's 944 cb650/740 and a deceptively fast white pantah after he blew his start from pole position.

FOLKS!

After 2 years of struggles, I finally got a 3rd place last weekend at Misano! I'm happy as clam, as it was the race with the most participants of the season (15 in my class) and I was lapping the same time as the Ducati TT2s, the same guys that a few months ago seemed light years far away. Bike behaved magnificently, before the race we had reduced the offset to 100 mm and it has worked wonders, seems like another bike.

Pics or it dind't happen :-)
