Kawasaki GPZ1100

Anybody ever have one of these or know much about them. Aren't they fuel injected.

I have the little brother, the GPz 550... great bikes!  The 550 is pretty quick, cant imagine how fast the 1100 is, I would prolly hurt myself.

Yes, the 1100 is FI, 550 is not.

The engine is the last of the breed and is very tough. Best head, crank etc. Fuel injection is early....I knew several guys that switched over to carbs after running into injection problems. Other fella's never had a problem with the injection.

Early primitive Fi system was prone to failure. Biggest issue was degradation of the electrical connectors, causing high impedance and resulting in the FI mis-calculating fuelling quantity / timing. Other than that, great machines.

Great bikes. We use the heads and transmissions in our drag bikes because they are better/stronger than any other KZ/Z1/J model produced. Also the cranks are stronger. And hey, those bikes just look darn nice when restored.

I have that motor in my Bimota KB-3. It's now running a Wiseco 1170cc kit and Mikuni VM-33 smoothbores.

They come in 2 models, the B1 and B2, the B2 has improvements and is a better bike, the fuel injection is hit and miss, most junk it for a good set of Carbs....

Yeah that was one of the first things I noticed. Bike must of sold hasn't been on CL in several weeks.

They had a big heavy 4 into 2 in black, the B1's pipes were painted and the finish was rubbish, the B2 got black chrome pipes, they sound much better with a good 4 into 1. Over here the B2's had the fairing, if that is the case there in the US, that one is a B2....Great bikes...

I had to take a gpz 1100  once, couldn't take the 500 I was buying until the Kaw was on the truck first. It had fuel injection,and all kinds of electrical issues. It was also heavy.
Ended up using the entire front end and entire rear suspension ,wheels, and tank on a 500 frame.

Parted out the rest of the Kaw to a collector. People seem to like them. correction: other people seem to like them.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750. 
  550 Snowbike -Somebody had to do it.

Most of that was fixed in recalls by Kawasaki, not many "oil burners" left, they are bullet proof engines... ;)  Maybe not in the US apparently, although If you go onto any Kawasaki forum you'll find lots of these 1100's still being ridden without problems.. ;)  I had a mate in Sydney with a 1100B2, he replaced the injection with 34mm CV's and it was a real weapon and reliable..
Here's a bit about the oil problem..

THE ONLY ANSWER WAS TO REBORE THE CYLINDER. TRY TELLING THAT TO THE CUSTOMER WHO HAD JUST SPENT OVER £2000 ON THEIR NEW BIKE. YES SIR, A FIRST SERVICE AND OH YES,  A REBORE ! I DON'T THINK SO.!!!! . KAWASAKI RUSHED THROUGH SOME NEW MODIFIED CYLINDERS BUT EVEN NOW THERE ARE MANY BIKES THAT ARE UNMODIFIED AND STILL BURNING OIL. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE USA NEVER GOT TO HEAR OF THIS MODIFICATION. ALL THESE IMPORTS SEEMS TO BURN OIL FOR FUN. PERHAPS THE AMERICAN JUSTICE SYSTEM COULD NOT HAVE COPED WITH THE LAW SUITS.!!!

       I picked up on an '83 GPZ1100, back in the Fall of 2009. Still has the fuel injection and someone put a Kerker 4 into 1 on it. Runs like a Champ. No plans to get rid of it anytime soon. I was concerned about the handlebar layout, at first, but after I rode it, No Problem. If I ever get to where I can post photos again, I will post it up. Never regretted getting mine.

    I didn't remember if I had posted a photo of my '83 Kawasaki GPZ1100 or not. Needs some detailing, the stripes are fading, the Kerker needs to be prepped and repainted or coated. But runs great and is still running the EFI system. I believe it is stock, except for the Kerker and the pods. Well, and the rear brake line isn't stock either.
