Shops in L.A.
« on: May 19, 2016, 05:33:42 AM »
I'm headed to Los Angeles this weekend (though sadly, not on my bike) and I figure the vintage bike scene has to be better there than it is here in Phoenix. Can anyone suggest any shops or gear stores or anything like that to check out? Maybe I'll even pick up some parts or gloves or a t shirt or something.

Deus is a definite on my list as I'll certainly need coffee at some (several) point(s). I really want to check out S & G but I'm afraid it's a little too far out of the way.

Deus is great for looking at the show bikes, a decent cup of coffee and people watching (weekends are the best).  The gear is VERY pricey.

Roland Sands Designs in Los Alamitos is simply AMAZING. Jay "Rockabilly" Skwarlo runs RSD's retail shop at the headquarters; he's a super nice guy. If you ask nicely, he'll let you see all the COOL stuff in the shop: amazing race bikes, custom bikes (including a Kenny Roberts MotoGP Proton V5 powered bike), new bikes being fitted with prototype parts, exotic bikes, etc.  They have a huge offering of apparel and parts.  In my opinion, this is a MUST SEE place.  Only open Saturdays on weekends.

Lossa Engineering/Jay LaRossa's shop in Signal Hill/Long Beach has a nice showroom with his collection and his work space is pretty amazing, too.  Some retail (shirts, hats, parts).  Only open Saturday.  Jay just finished filming a bike build competition show last week and I don't think he's racing this weekend, so he should be in.

You have to visit yoshi. He's a legend in LA.

The place is called "garage company". It's a bike shop and museum.

Also need to check out the rock store. Bike hang out.

I didn't realize that place was in Los Alamitos. I have family right there. Cone Engineering is there too (great mufflers, etc.). Forgot about Lossa. They do some good stuff for sure. There's a place in Seal Beach (Tank Farm) that's right down the road from Los Alamitos and Long Beach that puts on a vintage bike show every April. They sell some 'gear' but more clothing and stuff.

DAMN! How could I forget Yoshi??  Yes, another MUST VISIT.  And Yoshi is super nice.  In fact, if you are pressed for time, SKIP the hipster hangout at Deus and go to Yoshi/Garage Company and RSD.

Tank farm is wildly expensive tho . . . a bit much for my taste.  I forgot about that joint in Los Al - and yes, Jay's a good guy over at Lossa.  You can go to Mother's (Beer and Wine) in Sunset Beach and hang out with the HD riders . . .

Seriously tho, have a good time - we have more to offer than high prices and taxes.

Tank Farm is more of a clothing shop appealing to the moto segment and other.

If you want to see some rare race bikes, check out Yoshi's.  If you want to see some one of kind exotic moto art and customs, check out RSD.
