There should be someone on the continent being able to hard chrome them.. maybe Mexico?
Just saying cause in South Africa TTR has been getting them done for years at around 100 bux or less.

Hard chrome is not available on every street corner. I had a shock shaft done when I was a kid and it was $150. I'm not really looking forward to two fork tubes.

There is many chrome repair shops will do them, but not at a reasonable price you can live with.
Not sure what Honda charges for 750 tubes now, but I did buy new once.
I do know that for a HE bagger aftermarket are around 260 US for new tubes. Factory ones are even less.

Funny story there. I laced the rear two nights ago and everything was too long. I read the pack list wrong and put front spokes on the rear, and had way too much material sticking out. Its a wonder I was able to do it at all. I pulled it apart and starter again with the right spokes and for the life of me could not get things to work. A quick search led me to a thread here on the forum and once I realized that doing the insides on each side first was the way, it took me half the time. I went around and finger tightened the spokes to the same number of nipple threads showing on each so hopefully the wheel is not out a mile and will true up easily. Never done one though so it should be fun!

George  yes ebay last month.. widened rim 4 25 wide.
That gives me a 2.5 x 18 front, and the 4.25 x18 rear.

I see one's for 125 online for 750s, a steal if they are hardchromed  Z1 has a lifetime guarantee. Still like to check the Orem price, the 77/78 are hardchrome, and the early F and A.

I've had a request on the VRRA because that's where I first heard of someone restoring, but no reply yet. I did buy a pair from FBF and the quality is excellent.

Guys, remember that I am running GL1000 forks so tubes are harder to find in the aftermarket. I will try FBF when I need them. That is a next year project.

In other news, the trans has been sent to Cycle X for undercutting and will return with a new set of their coated bearings and then off to ISF processing at a place in town that is one of Rem Chem's satellite locations.

Other goodies that will come back with the trans include main studs/nuts, cylinder studs/nuts, cam (CX-10) and adjustable gear, and hopefully the finest 62mm piston ever designed and commercially available for our engines in 62mm.

I approached Kenny about some custom pistons, noting that the only off-the-shelf solution was Dynoman and they were a traditional (heavy) design. I wanted many of the features available today but lacking in those pistons. These will have asymmetrical skirts, inboard pin bosses, modern coatings and be substantially lighter than other available options. I realize some of these things will decrease longevity, but in an effort to build a competitive bike, I have chosen this route. These will take full advantage of the head Mike did for me and the balanced rotating assembly Kenny built, which is back there now to have the alternator stub cut off and the hole plugged. No sense in it hanging out there in the breeze when its no longer needed, besides, its extra weight I don't need.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

Another item I have been working on is wheels. I bought Buchanan spokes and having given them measurements from my hub, the spokes weren't quite right (my fault) so I will be sending them back along with a hub so they can take the proper measurements. So far they have been great.

Before discovering my spoke issue but after I laced the rear wheel, I wanted to get comparison weights to the drum it was replacing with as close of and apples to apples comparison as possible. The stock drum brake with sprocket/carrier and brake plate, tire, tube and rim strip (assembled) was 42.6lb. That is without the actuator arm or brake stay. The new wheel with another tire and tube (same size), sprocket, rotor, caliper/mount, master cylinder and reservoir, was 30.3lb or 12.3lb lighter!!!

Based on that and other items I have removed from the bike, I should now be at 375 with oil and 4 gallons of gas, which would be 350lb dry!!!

There are still many items that are helping to shrink the weight that are unaccounted for in this number, such as new seat base, lightened front rotor, drilled clutch basket, modified kickstart shaft, alternator stub removal, and I'm sure a bunch of other small items. I will have a slight addition in the form of a few more braces (0.035" chromoly) and the catch can system I am working on now but the net will be right in there.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

It's a shame Wossner doesn't pistons for your engine, Matt. I have a set of theirs for my R90, and they are simply gorgeous and exceptionally well made. Already come fully coated too on all 3 surfaces (dome, skirt, and underside). Whatever you have made, do shoot the underside with oil shed coating to help prevent crankcase oil from adhering to the skirt during combustion. It will reduce oil temps slightly.

(Some Wisecos I had shot for my CB)

So it's you who tipped them! This post was on their FB page, announcing the introduction of such pistons:
