Another item I have been working on is wheels. I bought Buchanan spokes and having given them measurements from my hub, the spokes weren't quite right (my fault) so I will be sending them back along with a hub so they can take the proper measurements. So far they have been great.
Before discovering my spoke issue but after I laced the rear wheel, I wanted to get comparison weights to the drum it was replacing with as close of and apples to apples comparison as possible. The stock drum brake with sprocket/carrier and brake plate, tire, tube and rim strip (assembled) was 42.6lb. That is without the actuator arm or brake stay. The new wheel with another tire and tube (same size), sprocket, rotor, caliper/mount, master cylinder and reservoir, was 30.3lb or 12.3lb lighter!!!
Based on that and other items I have removed from the bike, I should now be at 375 with oil and 4 gallons of gas, which would be 350lb dry!!!
There are still many items that are helping to shrink the weight that are unaccounted for in this number, such as new seat base, lightened front rotor, drilled clutch basket, modified kickstart shaft, alternator stub removal, and I'm sure a bunch of other small items. I will have a slight addition in the form of a few more braces (0.035" chromoly) and the catch can system I am working on now but the net will be right in there.
