77 K7 - The treasure hunt delights
« on: February 17, 2021, 10:05:42 AM »
I received a bag of long overdue hardware for the restoration.  Nuts and bolts mostly, including the ultra rare nos  swing arm pivot bolt to replace the very crunchy original - ridiculous price but...

One little package containing a triple clamp flange nut caught my eye with a price tag from Boon Siew SDN - in Malaysia so I googled the name and came up with an interesting story:

Boon Siew was born in Hui'an County, Fujian, China. He spent his childhood collecting pig dung (used as fuel) to make a living. Aged 12, he arrived in Penang from China with five friends, among them Loh Poh Heng and Loh Say Bee. He could speak only Hokkien and had virtually no formal education. He worked as an apprentice car mechanic upon his arrival.

This gentleman went on to become wealthy, met Mr Honda and went on to become the sole importer / distributor of Honda in Malaysia.

Sometimes the treasure hunt for those little parts turns up great stories like this gotta love it.
