Cb550 dud head gasket, or Head Gasket for sale!
« on: June 13, 2016, 06:13:20 PM »
Did new deals from base cylinder up two springs ago. Had an oil leak and bad compression, so decided to break it down again and do new rings this time. After two seasons of riding, the head gasket was still completely loose. Came right off, not stuck to anything anywhere. Doesn't seem right. I don't think my oil leak was from the head gasket, but now seems like it may have been. Is this possibly normal? Is this a bunk head gasket? I already have a new kit of seals ready to go, so if it's not a dud, it's up for grabs!

I would only put a used head gasket back on the bike it came off. This just happened the same for me too - many miles after fitting a new head gasket I had to pull it back down to fix some broken valve springs, the head gasket wasn't stuck to the head or barrels (and wasn't leaking) and didn't suffer any damage removing it so I re-used it - it's still good after several tanks of fuel!
