I have a run of 125 ft of 10/2 gauge wire going to my pool.

Can I tap into that with 14/2 gauge wire to run to the deck for deck lighting?

If so, how would I create a junction between them under ground?

Thanks for any assistance.

It is preferred to run a circuit for lights and circuit for outlets or other.

Also seems like you need them  both on GFCI?

And as Cal said, splicing underground is a nono.

I would not splice them under ground it can be done with specialized wire and junction boxes, insulating material but it is a #$%* to have to repair/dig up for any reason and because of moisture etc. the joints don't last as long normally as far joining the wires it's fairly common using a junction box if ti was me I would fuse the 115 volt line separately from the other also think about underground wire and a telltale above it to cut down on people accidentally digging it up. I ran mine in plastic conduit with a yellow ribbon over top. I know that seems extreme but you don't need problems in the future.

Thanks for the replies.

Advise well given, and advise well taken.

The 10/2 wire I dug and ran myself, electrician advise a 20 amp GFCI circuit breaker. Paid the plus 40 bux.

He installed and checked my work.....all ok.

There is of course a junction box in the attic where I miscalculated and bought 10/2 wire 15 feet too short.

So being the nice guy this electrician is, he happen to have just enough to finish the run.

So.....could I tap into that with this 14/2.......only reason for the 14/2 is I bought 250 feet of it and I can't return it, so may as well use it.

Once again......thanks guys.....

Even the county inspectors gave the ok stamp. Of which they were out here inspecting the addition of a rather elaborate sun room my wife wanted.

If you want to be up to code you can't use 14 Awg on circuit connected to 20 Amp breaker. Find other lighting circuit on 15 amp breaker and make a splice or if you have more spaces in breaker box, run directly there and install separate 15 Amp breaker.
