What brake caliber bracket is this?
« on: June 14, 2016, 05:59:57 PM »
Hey there,
While building my my I keep finding different year parts on my k4. Parts from the first cb750s right up until 74. I was having issues with dragging brakes, tension bolt not matching up with fork leg and finally a 74 fender would not fit. Looked at some photos and see that the k4 had a "t" shape bracket and I have what I think is a "c" shape bracket. Would anyone know what size Honda or possibly the year this bracket came off of?

Those C brackets were used on early models 69 to 71 for sure. Correct for 74 will be T bracket.

Thanks for the quick reply danyo

Was it on only early cb750's or were there other sized cbs that used this bracket?

The "C" brackets were only used on the K0-K2 750s. They will only mount properly on the early year fork lowers. If your bracket does mount properly to the lowers, and the adjuster bolt doesn't line up with the leg, then you have a later arm. Pictures of the fork lowers showing the mounts will help identify what you have. Also, pics of the top triple and the gauge mounts, and caliper, please.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Thanks for the info scottly,

Here are the photos you requested. I'm sure I do not have the early fork lowers since it doesn't have the square block off the back. I've heard that there are a few different types of fork lowers. Mine are about 32cm from top to flat section where the stud is. On the top triple tree I could see built up weld around the unicorn section. Under the horn were the usual two nubs with bolt holes that I have seen on cbs before. I think im correct in saying that if it was a unicorn style there wouldn't be these two rounded tabs under the horn.

You do know that the top triple tree needs the 2 'D' washer spacers where the gap is with the two bolts, especially with that style of tree.

Fork looks like it's a later model (73-76).  The early ones have more of a sqaured edge vs tabs for mounting.
The caliper arm will be shorter on the earlier ones.  The early forks (69-72) have different fork tubes and bushings than the later ones as well.  Calipers will interchange - no problem.  What do your gauges look like ?
Plastic cases and faces with idiot lights in the faces = early bike 69-71ish.    Metal cases (also with idiot lights in the faces) are 72.   73-76 switched to the idiot lights on top of the triple.  Ekpent mentioned the "d" washers - that is what caused the crack and the repair.

You can sell or trade that early bracket for one that would work pretty easily.  Everybody wants the early stuff.

That would make greenjeans since it would bolt to leg but was too short in arm for tension bolt to line up. I'm not sure if the tripe tree was an early one since under the unicorn horn looks like the photo I have added. My understanding is that the unicorn style would not have these two mounts under the horn. Kind of looks like the previous owner tried to make it look like an earlier model. Finding numerous prices from early cb's. My handle bar switches are also pretty early I think. Right side has kill switch, lights off on and high and start button. The left side only horn and turn signals. My gauges were in fact early makes. Plastic bodies with acrylic lens with lights inside gauges.

If you have all the early stuff run it, just need to get the right forks or swap brackets...then get a tank with the narrow stripe.. What is the number on the frame/ motor..start with a 1or a 2?

Definitely interested if you decide to sell it.

Hey 754,
The frame and engine are from 74. Just a few parts from early bikes. The tank was painted yellow and had the black stripe on it but was not the original paint. And it's not an early wrinkle tank.

Sorry Keith. Got a local friend who's spoken for it and has the t shape bracket I need. Thank you for your interest

1970's models had a black kill switch as did the early sandcast and 69's. This one is a 1/70 build date- 1020293

Ok, so my switch must be 71 or later.

The master cap is not the concave type, its flat across
