It seems like I struggle to get a decent, fair price for nice, well done bikes and yet I continuously  see CRAZY prices for bikes of "questionable" quality, especially on eBay.
While I think SOHC4's and Honda's in general should be the main focus of this thread, feel free to post any monstrosity or "WTF?!" price you see.

For example, this bike went to $4,550 and didn't meet reserve. It's relisted with a $4,750 Buy It Now. I simply don't see it. The electrics are hanging under the seat in a mess, cheap RFY shocks, the seat hump doesn't flow.....he should have taken the $4550, IMO.

There can be a lot of shenanigans going on behind the scenes with these E-bay auctions  ;)  The bike behind that 750F  on the CL add may be a Kwacker triple--go get that instead !

Don't believe everything you see in these ebay auctions.  I once tried to sell a very clean K5 on eBay, couldn't get enough bids to reach a very reasonable $2500 reserve.

My buddy used to have an eye for finding bikes on CL and Ebay that had no business being advertised as ride-able. One even had what looked like a 12" flat spot in the front wheel. My first question would be, HOW? ....do you do that to a wheel without destroying anything else?

I'd pass on that.  Well, maybe pick it up for 6 if you can get it, but without carbs it ain't going anywhere soon anyways.

How about this bad boy?
http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/mcy/5619362076.html

2,100?

It's not in terrible condition or anything, but the mods aren't particularly good, the tires aren't particularly good (not very good on dirt, not very good on wet pavement).

A few of those bikes' eBay ads descriptions were so well written some people think they must be crazy NOT TO bid on them!

Bought a wiring harness off an ebay seller.  Was told twice it was in working order.

Once it arrivied, I found several terminal connectors were burned and more were broken.

This, on the other hand, is a great deal. Buy the bike, get the trailer for (almost) free!

I don't see why this is such a bad deal! I understand none of us would pay for it. But someone that can't or doesn't have time to build a bike it's not all that bad.

That bike is just nothing special, to me.

The seat looks a little chunky. The paint is mediocre. Cheap Chinese shocks. The end caps are missing on the head/valve cover. The electrics show under the frame. The general overall detailing is "meh". To me, it's not a $4500 bike.

You seem to have quite a thing against the RFY shocks.

I don't see as many funny "Sandcast" auctions anymore...

The worst was the K0 sidecover that was smashed into about 15 pieces. Seller wanted $250 for it on the basis it was for a sandcast. His comment was, "It's rough, but with some glue and patience it can be made to look like new!" WTF!

Ebay takes advantage of captive audiences people in areas without a garage to work on their bike or in places where they are not available.  Lots of parts sell for big money on Ebay as international buyers pick up the tab for those.

As for the prices they "sell for" that is made up BS.  People get their friends to bid on these and hope to land a whale.  It is not an auction anyway as it is non binding.  Really just fantasy offers IMO.

No does the odd bike fetch big dollars sure it does, but for an unrestored one owner or a custom in the right market.
