Thanks you SOHCers!...this is some stiff competition. Thank you for all of the help over the years. I started my rebuild thread on April 05, 2010!?! The bike has been moved in pieces and shoes boxes to 4 different garages and been rebuilt twice during that time. I could not have done it without you guys(gals) and this place. I will update this post with all the details ASAP...until then, here's some picture from the weekend. I need to post a video, it sounds and feels SO GOOD! I am still trying to figure out a tank-stripe at this time.





I still also have this tank and seat for the "solo set-up"

Well done, Chris (and Dino, Rod and Chris).

I'm a fan of the K7-8 with F Tanks.  Go figure . . . This poll is going to be a tough choice for me.  Too many sentimental favorites.

I have always been intrigued by the idea of having a project. I love going to car/motorcycle shows, looking at pictures of projects, and talking to owners. My father was (and probably still is) an amazing mechanic. He could fix anything mechanical, paint, and troubleshoot anything related to wiring. I remember watching as a child and just being amazed at these abilities. Unfortunately, for various reasons, he was never able to teach these skills to me and that's something that I always wanted.

After a great deal of thought, I decided that a vintage motorcycle might be a good choice for a first project. I didn't know anything about them but I went to go look at this one. It was advertised as a 1976 CB550. Shortly after getting it home, I discovered that it was a 76 550 but that it had a 71 500 motor. I paid $1200 for it and this was it after I wheeled it into my garage.



Much of the time spent on this project has been fun but I'd be lying if I said there weren't times when I wanted to push it to the curb. I've learned a lot more about mechanics (actually seen the insides of a motor on my own for the first time), wiring, body work, paint, and perhaps most of all...tuning carbs to function at an altitude of about 8,500 feet. This aspect of the build has been the most frustrating because there's not much worse than having the thing fire up and not being able to ride it so the learning continues.

The project gets closer to the picture I've had in my head with every job that gets finished and future mods include painting everything, Motogadget electrics, rear sets, and wheels.

Thank you all for the help you've given me through this build. Thank you as well for this nomination. It truly means a lot to me since I know you all have excellent taste. Here are some pictures taken along the journey.

My humble apologies to you and those of you who voted for your bike.  I had to remove your bike from the poll.  I did not realize it until tonight -- 4 days into the voting -- that you never accepted the BOTM nomination (not before June 15th or at all).  This unfortunately violates BOTM Rule 3: "A nomination must be made, seconded and accepted within the allotted timeframe (if you do not accept a seconded nomination by the 15th of the month, you/your bike will not be included in the contest for Bike of the month)."  I take responsibility for not catching the lack of the "acceptance" on or before the end of June 15 and I am truly sorry.  Your bike will be eligible for nomination for next month, and I will re-nominate it.  My apologies to the forum members for not catching this oversight (the lack of an acceptance) four days ago.

The following goes for all of the bikes, courtesy of Chris Bywater (SKTP).

These bikes are a product of steadfast commitment -- of trial and error and GLORIOUS perseverance.  Of toil, heartache and then polished beauty.  The remind me of the odyssey of my own bike and probably yours (whether in progress or done).  They make you smile, especially when the problem on deck gets worked and solved.  These builds put a big smile on my face.  And even though Dino doesn't have still photos up yet, think about the fact that he had to DO AND REDO about every step of his build -- to figure out, rehearse and then film and edit before posting.

I SALUTE ALL OF YOU!!

Here's one more on the machine...I drove it 80miles round trip over the weekend to Born Free 8. The girl was on the back. 75mph was the top speed achieved. It sure is different than the Ducati.

Silverado Canyon in Orange County, California.  This was the 8th year of the show.  It's a huge V-Twin affair.  The largest California ride in bike show.
