79 goldwing tadpole

It's been a long time since I've been here, I hope everyone is well.

So for $30 I just picked up this thing and I don't have a clue on what to do with it.

It looks as if it may have a Volkswagen front end on it?

Let's start a poll:

Keep it and fix it up the way it is.
Convert it back to a gold wing
Throw it in the junk yard

What is everyone's thoughts?

Ha ha, that's a sweet trike Jag, and welcome back by the way. Can you legally ride it around like that? If so, take it for a ride and see what it feels like, and if you like it, for 30 bucks it's cheap transport, and if you don't, it's the basis for a new build! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Somebody must of been really bored one weekend to do something like that. I always wondered where Can-Am got the idea for their Spyder ;D

The other day we were at a little breakfast joint along side the Delaware, the whole lot was filled with all types and brands of bike. Two guys on spyders slowed down like they were going to pull in, and abruptly swerved and kept going. My buddy was like, "those are lame and they know it" we all had a chuckle. I have nothing against them, but anything that wide must suck in a large group.

As far as the wing is concerned... I always like a bit of engineering. It's cool, but maybe it's possible to make it look a little less like a go kart was welded to the front of a motorcycle. And lose the plow lights.

We got spyders in our area in drones, hipp thing I guess.

I only respect them when the rider is too old to ride real bike, but I was known to be prejudice  ;D

I agree - plenty of parts around, just slap a new front end on and you'll have a nice (well someday) Necked Wing.

I like the way they just welded the end of the fork tube inners to the contraption.

I am a mechanical engineer in the automotive industry by trade, and I would have never had the ingenuity to come up with such a contraption. So kudos to the redneck that did this. Hahaha

The cafe racer scene has made it next to impossible to find a decent CB  for a good price anymore, so I jumped at the opportunity to get back into wrenching.

The front end has got to go. And I'd love to have a bike to ride double up on with the misses.

So hopefully I can find a front end, decent fairing, and some old school shoei hard bags and go enjoy it.

That is not a VW front end (I had 2 Beetles and a Karmann Ghia). Beetles and the like didn't use A arms.

On the topic of Spyders, they are all over Chicago, particulary the night club district in River North on Friday and Saturday night. They seem to have found favor with the brothers. They are all neoned up and very loud. I also see several Polaris Slingshots.

Yeah, I would take it... I'd turn it back into a Wing...naked wing.  Hard to tell what they did to put it in... likely they pressed it in... RedNecks will do some "stuff" to make it work.

That's my plan too, David - turn it into Naked Wing once again.

The front end will be an easy situation to contend with, let's just hope everything else is working properly.  :-[

The rod seems to be pressed in the bottom side of the triple tree. I'll see what I can do to get it removed. At least the bearings have been updated - one less thing to buy! Lol

I wouldn't buy any Kawasaki forks for use on a Honda, from experience, nothing seems to fit or line up unless it's on a Kawasaki. I did a quick ebay search though, for "1979 Honda Goldwing Forks" and found a dozen or so candidates, all for under 100 bucks. Here's a nice(ish) set of forks with a nifty alloy fork brace for the princely sum of $84.95:

I've wanted a naked wing...that Sulfur Yellow with Rabid Transit fairing really talks to me...don't like the Vetter fairings.
The fairing would make winter riding more tolerable, or long road trips.
