Wrapping Pipes (exhaust)- Pros and Cons

What do you guys think? Im thinking of using gold colored wrap on my bike

Another magically disappearing post from JWilde.

First it's pods and velocity stacks. You just keep going down the list of things not to do on a bike. Just build an art bike and be done with it.
Exhaust wrap is bad in so many ways. It is intended to keep underhood temps down on cars, allowing cooler air into the intake to help make power. It will also keep the heat inside the pipe to help create HP. With a motorcycle engine not being "underhood" this feature is eliminated. It will however keep heat in the pipe but will only show HP benefits in the 1% range. It will also over heat your pipes beyond their intended heat range and cause them to deteriorate at a more rapid rate. It will allow water under the wrap accelerating the rust and corrosion further accelerating the failure of the pipe. I know they say to silicone seal the wrap to prevent moisture from getting in. But think it's more of a "resistant" than "elimination" process there and it's seldom done and when done , done poorly. The only benefit to exhaust wrap IMHO is as a cosmetic benefit to cover rusted out ugly pipes, but at the expense of all the negatives I mentioned above. A good wrap job costs most of what a new pipe would cost.

It's not common on here to ask for advice, and once you get it..to delete the posts.
So if you don't want to fit in here, keep it up..and pretty soon folks on here will just not bother helping you..anymore.. Your choice..

I deleted it because I spoke with someone and made a decision on it and didnt need the post.

You may not have needed it, but future readers could have. Just think, what if some of the old threads on here were deleted? We'd lose a lot of valuable information.

I saw the posting in the list and opened it to answer the question that was asked. It wasn't till I tried to post it that I got a message that it wasn't here anymore. I deemed it a legitimate question and wanted to provide an answer so others don't make the mistake or at least are better informed an making a decision. Header wrap in general is a gimmick that is usually not worth the trouble and expense. If it were a valuable performance adder all the NASCAR guys would be using it, none do. Those who do use usually have deep pockets, spend money on unnecessary items trying to sqeak out that last drop of whatever but show no results from doing so. There are lots of big money racers out there who haven't a clue to what they are doing.

Here's to hoping  ::)

Earlier today his post count was at about 200, now it's back down to 170 if that tells you how many posts he's deleted.

Guys, you're treating this stain like the media treated DJ Trump. Bad press is what got him a nomination. (Not to make this political.) The point is, any press is good press, so just ignore this plug and move on.

Thank you, lostboy.

 Everyone hates when he posts but can't wait to jump into the fray.
 This is the third or fourth thread brought up this weekend about it. I'm not sure what is trying to be accomplished here. It's like people want him to come back, see the posts and make a comment just so an altercation can be started. I keep hearing calls for banning him but this is similar behavior, so....

 Let's get back to talking about riding, wrenching and learning about bikes.
