Engine ticking sound + strong oil leak
« on: June 19, 2016, 04:05:09 AM »
Hi Guys,

Im riding a 750 k 77 - daily rider. Few mods - Dyna S, High output coils and leads, 4 into 1, Pods (done by prev owner), Kick only, final drive ratio changed, electrical system custom rebuild from scratch (never doing again) and a few other bits and pieces changed. Maintained regularly and ridden a lot. Runs well and plenty of power under usual riding.

Recently started to have a tapping/clicking sound coming from what seems like the number 3 cylinder (read left to right 1-4). Read through forums and reset and the valve clearances (twice to be sure), replaced exhaust crush rings. Still have tapping/clicking sound. It taps at rate of engine i.e.when engine rev'd it increases. Bike has been riding fine with tapping but last week sprung a solid oil leak coming from engine gasket to the right hand side mid way up block. Fitted Oil pressure gauge shows a maintained oil pressure whilst riding but has a lot of oil spitting onto my leg SEE PHOTO (not ideal and spat onto rear tyre). Would these be linked? Would the tapping be the oil leak in the cylinder? I could see air bubbles spitting from gasket on side of engine where majority of oil was coming from

Full engine Gasket set has been purchased and planning on replacing engine gaskets but just want some ideas about what the tapping/clicking noise could be and any advice about lifting this engine out and pulling it apart and replacing these gaskets so i dont have a meltdown. I have never taken this engine out so unsure of internal condition.

I have shop manual - but want some Hondaman and general forums thoughts

Any advice would be amazing.

Cheers,
Simon
