The Riding Dead with Norman Reedus
« on: June 19, 2016, 07:20:16 PM »
Anyone watching the hour-long commercial that is "Ride with Norman Reedus"?
So far it's about what I expected, contrived but entertaining.

I watched a bit of it, I am not a WD fan, but.... Ducati Multistradas on a lonely mountain road caught my interest.  Selfies on a lonely mountain road.... Not interested.  Mooshie, Ofreen, Pimpzilla and a lonely mountain road would be a much better story, IMHO.
Just the same, I will probably drop in next week.

I much preferred the IOMTT on Velocity, even if the racing was impeded by the weather.

Meh.  I had higher expectations.  The hipster girl parts were somewhat visually appealing but sort of lame.  My better half said, "Those chicks are probably new riders," and that they were more interested in hanging with a famous dude, and she was right on both accounts.

the latest episode on that the hills and mountains were caused by volcanic activity was total BS, sure they had volcanic activity but most of the mountains and valleys were carved out by combination of a huge glacier that moved through the SW a long time previous and erosion. Someone needs to give him some geology lessons before he starts talking... Yeah, I'm watching it because nothing better on but it is contrived.  The last episode's male riding partner was either metrosexual or otherwise and I thought they were going to kiss at a few points...  Either a strong bromance or otherwise in the works... It was really unreal how all the girls were clustered around Norman and the other guy was behind them...  It is a strange show...some pretty scenery.

Yeah.  That was pretty obvious (wedding band and all).  And he's a freakin' Getty.  Those girls were clueless star-glommers.

Well, if you've followed the Walking Dead you know there has been speculation whether or not Darryl would hook up with a female at some point or if they would have him be in a homosexual relationship. It was just some strange interactions, despite Balthazar being married.

Bikes are nice.  I tape the program and fast forward past the fawning parts and the endless commercials.  The American West which is on Saturday night on AMC is more interesting.

The commercials for it alone put me in the negatory camp.
I can't blame Reedus though if AMC is stupid enough to throw money at him to ride sweet bikes wherever you want to go no matter how weaksauce the show turned out to be. I would do it in a heartbeat.

Yeah, like Dukie said, easy money. The crew takes care of all the logistics. He just rides around with folks.

Yeah, it is a sweet gig but unless his dialogue is scripted it can really give insight into the way he thinks, feels about some stuff.  Supposedly, a pair of the ladies with them in the last episode had started the Girls Ride Out, so they have been riding for at least as long as that group has been in existence.  But, you can get posers with a group or even riders who do it on weekends...  I know lots of Harley riders who are more into dress up and that "culture" than riding a lot.  Sure, they ride on weekends but for many it is a status or bike as jewelry kind of attitude.

JWilde is a perfect example in my opinion.
I won't even give him the satisfaction of viewing his threads (as that strokes his ego) because it quickly became apparent to me why he had a bike and his general attitudes...

Norman at least loves bikes. I am surprised AMC didn't have insurance preventing him from riding outside of on the show (Walking Dead). Lots of actors have that kind of clause in their contracts.  That would be a deal breaker for me...

The metal work on that BMW on the first episode was something to behold, that guy had some skills.

So I really can't complain about an episode shot in Austin and the surrounding area!  ;D
They nicely highlighted some of the great roads just west of here.
Good of them to give a plug to Limey Bikes! They do good work out of their ridiculously tiny shop.

The show is a very friendly travel and eat on bikes.  All of the rides are reasonable in length (nothing cross-country) probably to emphasize that anyone could do them on a long weekend.

I love Austin, so I enjoyed the last episode.  I don't know a thing about the Colt Wrangler guy or Limey Cycles; it was a white guy dreadlock episode!  The roads through the Texas Hill Country looked great.  I was hoping for some faster sweepers but probably a nice mellow cruising ride.

It's clear that Norman loves bikes and riding in general.  I like that he is using his "star power" to spotlight the bike culture and its facets, although the "hipster" seems to be his focus to me.  He seems to find interesting places to explore during his stories.

Well, "hipster" is where the ratings and money are at these days.
I liked that the product placement was toned-down a bit in the last couple of episodes.

Agree.  Last episode was the best so far.
