That is a great price Per! About the same as I paid for the pair with free shipping to Oz, but Eric should be able to stock up on a few sets for that money. ;D
Hurry up Terry and get one in a bike and do a few chicken or meat pie runs so we can see how well they work !! Might buy one or two just to have around, cheaper then points and what are probably crappy condensers nowadays. I'm not against anything that works well and is easy.
The electronic Dyna on my GS1000 has worked great with no problems after I tracked down a problem with the power slice the previous owner half assed put together.  :D

I've been running those coils in the K0 and K2 since 2020 Eric, they're great. I'll throw one of my new "Chyna" electronic ignitions into the K0 on Sunday and take it for a ride, and report back. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Terry, looking forward to seeing how yours pans out. I wonder if you could supply electrical consumption of your ignition setup in amps/rpms? I know you have different coils from stock but it still a good general picture of how it fits the machine.

one thing ive mentioned a few times and ill repeat it here,is i never ride at night so have my instrument globes removed,it might not be much but its less load that can used elsewhere, some models overseas have headlights hardwired always on?pull the globes out of the instruments if your like me and never ride at night, also some have the front parking lamp lit when the headlight is on,i also dont run a front park lamp, sure if need for inspection have them fitted, youd be having bad luck if on one of these old classics a cop defected you for these globes not working during the day?

Thanks guys, I installed the new ignition a couple of weeks ago to replace the Kokusan ignition and it seems to work fine, but the misfiring at around 4K RPM continues so it looks like I have a bad coil. The new “Chyna” coils have been delivered so when I get a chance I’ll swap out the old ones and keep the Kokusan ignition under the seat as it’s easier to swap in a complete ignition with the Oem tool kit than swap in a condenser as the tiny spanners required to undo the condenser screw don’t come with the bikes tool kit. ;D

Terry; in 2007 my 2-3 coil went bad during a 110-degree ride home from work in heavy traffic. It acted much like what you're describing: I could ride in traffic up to about 3800 RPM and then it would start bucking and popping. A new coil fixed 'er up, so I bought 2.

Terry, was it an old stock coil?

G’day Per, no, it’s either a genuine Dyna or a “Chyna” coil, I can’t remember what I installed when I built the K0 in 2020. No matter, they’re the obvious suspects now I know that the Kokusan ignition is fine, so I’ll replace one, or maybe both, once I’ve determined that it’s not just a loose signal or power wire. ;D

The new “Chyna” coils arrived a couple of weeks ago but I haven’t installed them yet, as I’ve been busy with the blue F2, Suzuki T500 and selling my RC51. I had a problem with the T500 last weekend when a condenser went to God, but I found a new one and also replaced a set of points.

After some discussion on the build thread I popped for a Tytronic electronic ignition for only $120 USD, so hopefully that will fix the problem for good, the OEM system is a little agricultural to adjust, and so an ignition plate similar to the Tytronic system for a CB750 should be a lot simpler to install and set up. I’ll report back on it’s performance once I receive it, and I go for a decent ride. ;D

Suzuki coils are weak and prone to failure. I had to replace a coil with a spare before I could do a first start on my T500. Think I read at the time that its not rare for them to go bad especially if the ignition is left on too long without running.

That can probably kill any coil.
I have seen my Dyna 5 ohm coils become a little bit less black after forgotten on for a few minutes getting hot.
Still working so not long enough.

Happened during carb synch, engine died and continued to fiddle with the carbs with forgotten ignition on.
Use kill switch when working/verifying/fault tracing the electric stuff.

No Bill, if you read my build thread you’d know that my rectifier has sh1t the bed and pops the main fuse as soon as I give it a rev. No biggie, waiting for a new one from the US. I bought new coils for it, along with a new wiring harness when I built the bike. ;D

[...] Think I read at the time that its not rare for them to go bad especially if the ignition is left on too long without running.
When I expect to work long time with IGN ON, I isolate the breakerpoints (see pic). If I want to judge the spark at the plugs, I have a wire with a small alligator clip on one end and the other end is just wire. To test spark, I clamp the alligator clip on the point's little bolt and I strike the stranded copper wire on the engine, gearbox, whatever ground. The result is a serie of sparks that will give you a far better impression of the spark's quality.

Speaking of cheap Chinese ignitions…

I had a heck of a time trying to find good quality points and condensers for my K0 ignition.

3 sets of points that weren’t shaped right to be timed correctly and a few sets of condensers that were garbage out of the box later, I thought what the heck…

52 bucks got me a Dyna copy shipped to my door step. Wired and timed in under an hour. Purrs like a kitten.

I’ve only gotten a few hundred miles on it but it seems promising.

If I had to guess, they are make at the same factory as Dyna.

Quite clean. Nothing about it seems sloppy.

Time will tell.

Years ago I had a heck of a time with a set of generic points on a different kind of Honda: a 1976 Civic CVCC.   I tuned up the car and it ran great for a week or so; then it started misfiring a bit at high RPM.  I checked the whole ignition system multiple times, including the points, but could not find the problem.  I even reinstalled the old plugs, cap, rotor, and condenser.  At first I did not replace the points, because they tested fine with my multimeter.  Finally, in desperation I reinstalled the old, worn out points, and the problem went away.  A close examination revealed a tiny crack in the nylon insulator block on the points spring.  The crack was not bad enough to short the spring when tested statically, but at speed it opened up enough to allow a spark to jump to ground.

From then on I used OEM points on the car.

Can you share link/source for this cheap ign?

These:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/255277816022?hash=item3b6fbe58d6:g:lYQAAOSwr-xjBXVT&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4JLVnfLBeTbOT%2FFkoB7nUFZIbB7r68w6JxoraQZFgDzOB5D9r2J1%2FReJCdeet5q7YGLHUOdxuq64PJcgsiYmTOVmLnGNFznLTPgIAE6q6g0b96PvHtj%2FRHccpnMPrCgrfsggiGJtYp2bUdEiasWUNpX7puhMqwBycTQ8DT%2FH45PbMGrYOwZ%2BE6oMx6I82W9J6ol1obOtdZ2%2BpQvPWJPII%2FTn5dFCmROJI%2FgN9FoyS9AlUGZIY3GrIFinGiRf54A9I0N8n9nVElB50e9zl4ul9t4a0JePO02RpAFI9t3aV34a%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-7fhv3bYQ

They aren't even shy about flaunting their infringement, going so far as to give their product the same model number as the Dyna-S.

Yup. That’s it.

Seems there are a lot of people selling them. I just looked for the cheapest one listed which at the time was 51.99. Even at 62 bucks. Still cheap. They all have the same pics in the postings so I’m sure they are all the same.

Search eBay for cb750 electronic ignition.

Isn't that one meant for a CDI?

yeah its become a slang term for any electronic unit?as we all know a CDI per say is a completely different animal and requires a special coil, those look like a good unit,so cheap buy two still cheaper than quality points and half the #$%* around!

Yea one discharges a saturated coil and the other discharges a 600 volt or so capacitor into a transformer for spark. The latter can seriously hurt and #uck a guy up and easily seen in that huge gap jumping,  fat blue welder like spark lol.
