How to get these battery terminal nuts/bolts in?
« on: May 24, 2016, 01:02:34 AM »
I don't know if my battery just happens to be bulky or this is just how it is or I'm just missing something but I don't have fat fingers and I can't get a hold on anything in there, especially with no play in the thick and stiff cables. Help?

Junt there's a cradle for the nut hold it with your finger, next get a Philips head and screw it into the nut. It's tight but doable.

I have put a rubber gas line behind the nut to hold it in place.  Keeps the nut in place while starting the bolt.  Also just used a finger to hold in place.  This on a 550 and 750.

Position the nut, then slide a flat blade screwdriver behind it, pressing towards the bolt. Thread the bolt, then wedge the nut in place until you're done.
If you follow this, try to avoid the screwdiver to touch the frame in case the negative terminal is already connected. ;D
Make it a habbit when installing a battery to connect the positive terminal first and when removing to disconnect the negative first.

Please don't use that liquid acid filled rust manufacturer and destroyer of battery boxes. AGM is the only way to go unless it is a show bike and originality is important.

I have found that the clear battery vent line works well behind the nut as well and always seems to be around.

Thanks. You may have saved my life. I was wondering about this.

Anyway, actually, the real trick, for me at least was to lower the battery in there only about 90% the way down there(it's tight down there and it stops against something, for me at least) leaving some finger room to maneuver the nuts on without any extra makeshift instruments.
