Mine, pictured above, sounded like a pepper mill when I twisted it, and was really crusty. A brass brush helped clean it up over the better par of an hour. Probably due to no gasket on the points cover

Note, there are several .003" shims to be aware of.
ONE on top of and One or TWO under each of the weights. These shims help keep the weight parallel to the back plate of the unit.
Without proper alignment, the weights cannot reach full advance. (Grab the toe of the weight and see how much up/down play is there)
..and anywhere from ONE to THREE larger shims under the base of the cam.
These should not be discarded, and they are high-wear items.
.003" brass shim stock can be purchased and new spacers cut, or, as I did, borrow parts from an unusable unit.
