I had the title for a bike OI bough as a chopper but had to find the PO because the guy I got it from never put title in his name.

I found the guy somewhat local and he met me at a tag agent to straighten things out and was real helpful.(Said don't ride that thing it's dangerous).

He asked if I was into ole bikes and told me he had a friend who had two Nortons he was planning to sell.

Skip forward a couple years and I see him at a casino and chased him down before he got away.  I asked him about the nortons and we exchanged numbers. later that evening I got a call, two days later my friend who had the means bought them both  for cheap, only a few serial numbers apart.

Never know what contacting your PO might lead to....

I received a letter years ago seeking title for my first car. Guy I sold it to never transferred it and someone else in another state ended up with it. Duplicate title for $20, postage, done. I'd probably send a letter with a picture in current state, explain you want to restore it and use it or whatever you'd do with it and ask for a signed duplicate title which you'll compensate him for any fees. Ask for a call back. He may help, or if he wants it back it's not a big deal as there are very few uses for a bare frame with no title anyhow. I'd never put any time or money into a frame that the government could steal from me at any time with no recourse.
