Just dropped by to pick your brains lol.
« on: June 21, 2016, 12:55:04 AM »
Hi guys, I haven't been on this forum since I sold my old cop bike, these days I cruise around NZ on a 2008 1500cc Suzuki C90T and it is ultra reliable (read slightly boring) but her Ladyship loves the comfort and I have upgraded it as far as I can.
Anyhow I needed something to fiddle with in the shed, I knew a farmer who had an honest "barn find" in his barn, it was a 1969 Yamaha CS2 two stroke twin, in 1993 it threw a piston so he tore the motor apart put it into 3 large boxes then lost interest and parked it behind the tractor for 23 years! I knew he had it and when he told me it was going to be dumped I grabbed a bike trailer and dashed down to save it cos like all you guys, I'm a bike nut lol.
It needs a lot of TLC and I'm probably looking at a 3 year project, anyhow I knew I could get some good info on restoring an old girl like this from this SOHC4 site, you guys may not know it but your FAQs and general info is an amazing source of knowledge for restorers of all types of bikes.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

If you can see that big end, well that is the killer, do you think I can get anything similar...no way!

that crank should not be a problem , a couple of rod kits and a few bearings and you are done , if the original kits are no longer about there is bound to be something that will fit .
i do a lot of two stroke cranks but unfortunately am a bit far away . if you get stuck have someone press it apart and email me the sizes and i will let you know what will fit .
nice to see you back by the way

Cheers guys, good to see so many of the old faces still on here. Simon I may take you up on your offer lol. As for rebuilding another SOHC4 well here in NZ they are way over priced and pretty much unobtainable, if I ever find a barn find one though all bets are off lol.

Welcome back Hush.  3 years and $3000??  I just did a resto on an old DS6-was a heckuva lot of fun to ride.  Enjoy the process...Larry
