Stock 750F-style 4-1 exhaust on a 550F?
« on: June 20, 2016, 12:13:23 PM »
Two things I like about this 750F exhaust are the flat collector and the long tapered muffler.  Does anyone make a system like this that'll fit my 550F?  If not, would this 750 system fit on the 550?  It seems like the 400's and 750's got the flat (4x1) collectors, while the 500/550's got the square (2x2) collectors, I wonder why?

There are no cross compatible exhaust headers for 550's.
I had hoped myself.

As for OEM supersport 4-1 headers, sometimes repops come up for sale on ebay.  If you are willing to afford them.

Finding a silencer like that should be simple enough as well.

I can't seem to recall what that type of pipe is named?

Delkavic only sells a 550 header with a square (2x2) collector, like MAC, and all the other popular ones.  I was asking if anyone makes a flat collector (4x1) header for a 550, similar to the 400 and 750 collectors.  Also any tips on finding the long tapered muffler.  The usual places all have the shorter megaphone style muffler for a 500/550.  If I could get one with a large enough inlet, a Dunstall muffler is similar.

To my knowledge, there is no flat collector like that for the 550.

The original header collector was semi-square.

This muffler is being more difficult to find than I would have guessed.  Most ALL universal mufflers sold are 1 3/4" inlet, I supposed because they are commonly used in pairs.  The outlet of my collector (and the Delkavic collector) is 2 1/2".  Any ideas on where I might find a long tapered muffler like these with a 2 1/2" inlet?

That would require quite the reducer adapter.

Bet they would look great on a 2x2 system

Not quite a long taper like you posted, but check with Cone Engineering for a 2.5" inlet muffler. Or even MAC.
Can you post a picture of your exhaust?

Sure.  Here's what's on there now, looks like a MAC.  I'm toying around with the idea of making my own muffler if I can't find one that's stock-looking with a 2 to 2 1/2" inlet.

At least it's the megaphone style.

I hated the mac canister the monent I pressed "start

The header and midpipe were good for my setup.

Looks pretty good to me.
If you watch eBay or the classifieds here, you'll eventually find a stock set up. Might have to buy the header and muffler separate.

I just found that Lossa sells their long reverse cone mufflers with different inlet sizes, up to 2 1/2".  Check them out here...

They sell them in regular, and "quiet core".  I'd probably go with the quiet version.  Any experience with either?

I see one issue, that's not a 550F header you have on that bike. The collector comes back farther than what you have. Here is what came on originally:

Those are probably Cone Engineering units. Many resellers sell them. The original 550f header was square and I am unaware of a flat (4 into 2 into 1) design for the 550. Here is my 550k with an f header and a Cone 12" shorty powder coated. I Have the later 750f header on my early 750f and it is beautiful!

The difference is that they are long, I don't want the short cones.  I'm trying to piece together a stock-looking system and not having any luck finding a long muffler with a 2 1/2" inlet.  I don't really even like the look of the Lossa mufflers, but we'll see what else I can find.  Other stuff to worry about first with this bike, just looking at all the options.  I may buy the 750F stock system in the classifieds just for the flat 4-1 collector and go from there.

There's something about this that's so black, it's like how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black.

The Flat style collector is very unpopular in the 4-1 world.  If you want to cut them up go for it but the 550 being straight up cylinders, and the 750 slanted means they could never fit.
But if you wanted to build your own 4-1 flat collector, should not be too hard.
