Give yourself a couple days..
Maybe try scotchbrite the brown red pads..get a brushed finish in far less time,  the factory settings sedan this on a lot of the parts when your bike was new..

Those Excels. Are lovely looking rims..

Best polish.

It is the best because I have used it and think it is.
So no debating it.
Just buy some.

Like you want the "Excel" lettering off from the rim? The rims are anodized so they will dull quickly if you remove the coating. Cheap answer, sand it off and keep the rims clean. Correct answer, disassemble the wheels, blast the hoops, powder coat preferred color, reassemble.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

I'll go with the cheap answer. Im super diligent with keeping my vintage stuff clean. Had old cars all my life and never allowed anything to rust or blemish.

From your previous thread, you said that you wanted "tattered" hubs mounted to new stainless spokes and Excel rims, right??  This was to go with (as you described it) the Mad Max look of your 350.  Frankly, I'm glad you had a change of heart.

I think you can mask the spokes and sand and lightly polish your hubs to a brushed finish.  I still think the best option is to send the wheels complete to Nils and have him vapor blast the hubs, which will give them a nice matte finish.

Alternatively, you could mask the spokes and rims and paint the hubs black or silver.

Im not spending one more dime on these wheels lol. And I HATE headaches. HATE logistics and hate shipping stuff.

Funny you should mention painting the hubs black. That idea has long bounced around in my head. Hmmmm.

I supposed id have to sand them first? The hubs?

You could hit them with a green or red Skotch Brite pad.
Talk about headache...... you'll spend quite a bit of time taping up the spokes. I know......done it before.

Well, if you are not disposed to shipping them or spending more money on them, that would seem to remove vapor blasting (at a local shop or to Nils) as an option.

I think you can still rough sand them OR mask the rims and spokes and sandblast them yourself.  A sand blasting shop would not charge you much to do it, either.  Then paint them black or silver if you want them painted.  Alternatively, you can probably get them clean enough for painting with soda blasting, too.

Scotchbrite pads will work, too, but the labor will SUCK - the masking AND the scrubbing (having to avoid the spokes).  Your fingers will likely thank you if you have them blasted with soda, vapor or sand instead.

Scotchbrite shouldn't hurt the spokes much, that is why I suggested it..no masking,,less time than using autosol, mothers or Flitz..
You want the logos off..really.. ?..most guys want them on markof a great wheel..

Why didn't you polish/clean/blast/paint or whatever before lacing? Would have been soooo much easier. I am coming in late to the game on your build so maybe you had a change in game plan. If so, I apologize. It still may be easier to disassemble the wheels and polish up the hubs then relace?

Here's a little trick that I found here somewhere years ago...get some cotton rope about 3/8" diameter, cut yourself an appropriate length piece and smother it in aluminum cleaner/polish of choice, feed it through the spokes and wrap it around the hub so that it settles into one of the grooves on the inner hub.  Now  sashay the wrope back and forth similar to how you dry your ass after a shower.
This ain't gonna take you from total snotty to show worthy.  But it does work better than anything else I have ever tried...really just one more reason to love cast wheels.
If it works good, it looks good...

Polish on a rope! Like drying your a$$ after a shower.
I bet it works but sounds funny as hell.
