4 into 1 pipes all the same?
« on: November 20, 2006, 04:59:21 PM »
I am picking up another parts bike and I like the pipes on it.  Mine is a 77 CB750K with a 4 into 1.  The parts bike is a 76 CB750K with 4 into 1.  Can I swap them with out re jetting?

Thanks, cleveland

Probably, but re-jetting would be determined by the difference in the amount of restriction each system has. Changing from 4-4 to 4-1 or vice versa, or to open pipes, changes the restriction a lot so re-jetting is usually required.

In your case, if the systems are similar it shouldn't be a problem, but if one of the set-ups has significantly more or less restriction it might be necessary to re jet (ie, if one of the systems has had its baffles removed etc). In that case you could just try to swap the header section and keep the muffler, since the difference in the headers should be  pretty minimal (but that probably defeats the purpose if the pipes are that different...)

d me down kerkers on I did too much off roading and not much clearance under there  but she said like night and day sound performance she lves it hey there yu will have to deal with the spigot issue if they are still on the 76  like with kerker whn you install one of their pipes (my favorite) you need to take the spgots out by removing the flathead screw in the head use an inpact  then you use  the correct mm bolts to instal the kerker now mac however use the spigots and the stock star clamp  I put a hand me down kerker on sisters 74 750 k and she said like night and day  sound and performance now we run no baffle justthe cone piece in the end with no jetting needed  good luck seven fifty four ever Craig in Maine

GREAT!  They look pretty much the same except one is chrome and the other is painted.  You can see in my avatar that the last guy that had this bike painted the muffler grey.  :-\  This guy did a pretty crappy job too, because there is grey paint on the frame to.  >:(

Dont you just love that!   Last bike I parted had overspray on everything.   Well at least I'll know what bike the parts came off of.
