Exhaust mount problem.
« on: June 26, 2016, 09:11:24 PM »
Hello all,

1971 K0 CB 500 with a 4-1 exhaust. The project bike I bought didn't have any exhaust so I picked this set up off of a friend. However, didn't come with any mounts for the rear portion (where it connects to the frame).  Anyone have a good way of making your own mount? I wanted to use something from online but the shortest length I have found was 6" and I need 3" at the most.  I guess longer is better but just curious if you folks had a good method already proven in the field. Thanks in advance.

Weld a bracket to the swingarm side of it, and m I unt it to the passenger peg mount hole.

I have yet to install a rear mount on my carpy pipe

Is it necessary?

I will just state that the WHOLE weight of the exhaust, bouncing up and down as you ride, is resting/hinging on the exhaust seal and bolts/studs.
This weight is dramatically increased if a longer muffler is added.

I just used a piece of 1" aluminum to mount my Motogp exhaust exactly as flybox described. Some use a stout spring instead but I need to pull the header in a bit closer to run that front fender and this worked nicely. I polished the alloy up. It looks nice.

I went stupid simple hanging my can on bloo.

Galvanized strap, bent around the passenger peg loop.  Covered in rubber innertube and a hole drilled thru&thru to match the mount on her yosh can. Nut & Bolt then done.

One of these days I'll put some of that fancy shrink sleeve on the hanger.

Little straps of metal available at ace hardware!
