I don't think the angle would be too crazy for the stock front wheel. I believe proteal is running a 21 up front with no issues, but he might chime in on that one. At any rate 16/19 should be ok.

Thats the same lacing pattern as normal - double crossover, 10 sets of 4.
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.

16'' rear with a 130mm Avon Venom X tire out rear --->

21'' front --->

Total package --->

Eventually plan to go with a wider 21'' front wheel , to get some "chunky-ness" back to the front-end.

I actually like the contrast you've got going on between front & rear widths. It kind of reminds of a true californian look veedub :) Another of my passions ;D

Lacing 16" Wheel to 750 Hub
« Reply #81 on: October 18, 2006, 04:25:46 PM »
I have searched and found great information on lacing the 16" rim the the 759 hub.  I laced it no problem per the directions I received with the spokes and just like a photo I found on SOHC.  My problem is, it seems that I have done something wrong as the spokes appear to be too long.  ...or since it is a drop center rim will it be OK?  ...check pics.  I have not tightend the spokes down but they are at the bottom of the nipples and are still not tight enough.  I'm afraid there will be problems with the tube if left this way.  ...What do you guys think?

definitely a problem... you need spoke tension on all spokes in order for the wheel to actually be a working wheel.  aside from that you'll still need to consult the conversion gurus.

Your right, and if I tighten the spokes down I think I'll have spoke sticking out though the nipples.  I can't see how this could be laced differently than I have it either. ???

Well they normally do but the guy I got the spokes from said they all go from outside in.  ...I may unlace it and try in and out. ...dunno

I just received an email from the guy I got the spokes from and it looks like I am one hole off in my pattern.  Guess I'll take it apart and start over.  I knew it was going too well for my first time.

I just laced a 16 to my CB500/4 rear hub......and put those spokes with the big kink on the outside. Alternated the inside/outside spoke pattern of the original wheel......laced/trued up perfect.

Just looked at your pics....what does he mean one off??? Your right on the numbers with your spoke holes.

If I can get some time....i'll post some pics.

Heres a pic they had of the 750 hub:

I'll try and post pics of my rim tonight.

Greg

suppose for the sake of argument he gets it laced right and there is still too much spoke poking thru,cant he grind the extra spoke length down and be done with it.

That's exactley what I am about to do.  I have it lace again...the only way I can see it could possible be laced.  I think I'm going to tighten everything down, see if it will true up and grind them off.  My only concern is if there is enough threads on the spokes to get it tight. ???

also mine only have about 1/2'' of thread and yours look like about 11/16ths in the picture :-\ on mine when you put the nipple on the spoke and run it to where it runs out of thread,the end of the spoke is flush with the bottom of the nipple (not in the wheel yet)

with these spokes if you run the spoke in the nipple until it bottoms out (not mounted) about half of the total threads stick out of the end of the nipple.  I'm about to give up and get new spokes.
