Topic: Speedometer disassembly/Reassembly

Hi everyone.  I'm continuing work on my 81 CB650 rebuild and need to clean the inside of the speedometer/tachometer.  I read that the snap ring must be carefully removed in order to disassemble the units.  Can anyone provide any advice?  Is there a special tool that's needed?  Can you reuse the existing ring or is it best to buy a new one?  I appreciate any help you can give.

Another thought is whether it'd be best to buy new (reasonably priced) aftermarket ones.  Does anyone have any advice / experience / warnings?

Will +1 the use of a paint can opener for the bands. I tried it for the first time the other day and it made things way simpler.
