dragged this out of my mates shipping container
« on: July 03, 2016, 02:33:34 AM »
I stashed this a while ago and visited only once.  The condensation in the container attacked the bike so we left the container door open until I rescued it today.
A bit sad looking but now it is not going to get any worse.

Geez, I hope that pair of porches on the floor had ample food and water while being stashed away. There are laws against that type of treatment where I come from  >:(
Oh crap "feed the dogs"
She only put 3 things on the list of things to do while she is away.

The dogs won't leave my side while the family is away and are only half a step behind me anywhere I go.  The dogs demanded I take them to work on Saturday cause they had enough of being home alone.  It's Monday morning here now, so I guess I'll go to work and see what the wankers think when someone tells them I had my dogs at work on Saturday.

Yeh, that is a clean and pretty dent free fender, I would say that is a good piece and the surface rust ;D  can be addressed on the body.  The motor, disassemble and send to Nils to vapor blast and the cases will clean up, if he can cut through the oxidation on the cases it will look different than the lightly polished aluminum but you will have way too much polishing and sanding to get them back to polished aluminum. Cylinders might clean up if you slowly even out the edges but, that depends upon the corossion on the top of the fins.  Sandblasting will cut into them too aggressively.  Soda blasting wont do enough...  but maybe it is not as bad on cases as it looks.
YOUWILL be driven mad by lots of wrong parts on the 305 or even 150 or 160 CA bikes.  Toutuff had a new set of ca95 handlebars he wanted $70 for a few years ago now, He did a CA78 and it made him say never another.

That's the problem with fluffy/hairy dogs...you get them soaking wet to see how skinny they really are... those dogs do have the bearded Irish or Scotsman down pat with the long mustaches...

Gday David

I just clicked on new replys which I don't do too often and saw this old thread and since I pulled the bike out of one mates shipping container I put it into another mates shed.

I got it running briefly using an electric wheel starter thing and decided I don't want this bike so I will get rid of it before doing any work to it.

Dogs are getting ready to go camping (sort of) tomorrow

Didn't mean to bring back and old thread was opening threads in the other bike category and not paying attention.  The CA bikes aren't my cup of tea any longer but I like the cbs of that time... they can make a good fun bike for leisurely paced roads but these days you can't follow as close as most people in the city expect you to do or they put themselves in your braking buffer zone on multiple lane streets in their rush to get somewhere a few seconds quicker.

It's the 305

I'm lucky enough to have a CB77 as well that is in excellent condition that's why I have little interest in this poor old Dream

I agree with you, while the Dreams are okay and all, I am more for the CBs & CLs (250-305, that is). Super Hawks caught my eye, back in the early 1960's, when I first saw them start showing up here in Arkansas. The "Bug" bit me back then and I never lost my desire to get one. Got a pretty nice CB77 in my Garage, as we speak.  8)  ;)

Here is my Super Hawk. Hopefully? Well, as you can see, it didn't make it. I haven't posted photos on here or any other forum, for some time. Not really sure where to find the instructions, can I get an assist? Would surely appreciate it. I went down to attachments, browsed, found the photo I wanted to post, the info showed, in the window, but would not post or do anything. What The Heck? ::)

Yes photo worked.

I'll get a photo of mine up soon.  I have just replaced the bars to give it a more up right ridding  position and I need to iron out a miss fire and she'll be good to go again

I've had this bike for about 5 years.

It's pretty standard except for the exhaust.  My mate had Staintune make up 10 sets of these and it sounds awsome.

Glad I was able to post up a photo of mine, Scott. Yeah, my '66 CB72 I had, while in the Air Force, in Japan, had the slightly higher bars and I ran a pair of megaphones on it and I loved it. Wishing though, that I had converted it to a 305 though. Yours is Very nice! I have only had this one, since 2015.

She's a looker too Scott! Nice bike.  Decided after picking up a CA95 project it wasn't really what I wanted. A CB160 would have been a better choice.

I'm also a fan of the CB77.   I picked up this fine example in August.   It had 2,500 miles on it (I've put a few hundred more on it0.

I would never say that is a problem having 5 CB77's

It's only a problem if you want six because then your one short.

Nice nice nice

Five? I can totally identify with the logic of 1, not being enough. I had been gathering parts, for awhile, to build one myself. I was all set, to get started on putting one together, the way I wanted it. I had started mocking it up and little did I know, that my close friend, nearby, who is like a brother to me. had also wanted a Super Hawk, for some time. This man, picked up on a deal for one, went through it, made it right, enjoyed it and next thing I knew, all this time, his ultimate goal was to set me up with this Super Hawk. I knew he had gotten one and was working it over, but I thought it was all for him. So, now I have this Super Hawk. But now, I want more, so I will be going back to working on putting mine together, with possibly a little deviation here and there. So, I hope to have SOME Super Hawks, though not as many as you do. Nice little group You have there, By The Way.  ;)

Ebay sellers often price stuff into the stratosphere when they dream they can get it. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.  Dealer may have sold it for this at one time...just doesn't mean anyone will pay that price today.
I see nos bare heads going for $850 or higher for sohc and I can't see it being worth it as that could but a lot of porting and new valves, etc. on a used head.

The other four are all projects in various conditions.
Three run, though, not well yet, one has a stuck motor, plus, I've also a spare stuck motor.

Eventually, I'll sell three.   I may build a rider out of one, since the miles on the nice one are so low, I might want to keep it that way.

The nice one is currently on display at a local Honda dealer, along with my '76 CB400F,  for others to see and and enjoy.

Yeah, that is crazy.   There is a CB77 muffler (might be NOS, don't remember) listed for $850 right now too.    You can get quality reproductions from David Silver Spares for $300/side.

Very Nice Examples there. Myself, I have the Super Hawk that is pretty fine, parts to work on building another one and I also have a 400F, but it needs a good going over. Motor turns over and it is mostly there, but I haven't had the opportunity to see what it would take to get it running and fixed up. At one point, I had an example of the fours, from the 350F, to the 750A (didn't have a regular 750.  Only they were most all, projects and I ended up having to part with most all of them, for one reason or another. I am proud for those who have some of those SOHC4s and only Slightly envious (not in a bad way, mind you).

The Start of the mock up of my '64 Super Hawk Build, that I started, several years ago and "Life" happened, which derailed the project, back around 2009. It is in storage, at a Close Friend's, about 2hrs away and hoping to be able to get it here, by this Spring (at the latest and get back on it.  Hopfully.  ;)

Last one for now. Just wanted to show that I did have something started and hope to be able to get it together and be something of interest. I will have to go a Mighty Long Way, to come even close to being as interesting as those on here though:

I'd love to have a nice red one, it seems that a high percentage of the ones I see are black.   I may have to paint one of my project bikes red.

Are you on Honda Twins (http://www.hondatwins.net) or the Honda 305 Forum (http://www.honda305.com)?

I hope to be able to do a build thread on it, though it won't be as much of the custom work, I have seen on the others. And, yes, I have been a member of the 305.com, for almost as many years as I have been on here (joined here, in Dec '05) and I was a  member on the original Honda Twins, early on, along with the Honda Twins.net as well, been associated with the Twins. , since forever. But, I have to say that there are quite a few folks in these forums, who have more actual "Hands On Experience". Not gonna try to outshine them. I have basically done some repairs, and rode them. I have only "Built 1" and it was a 1958 Jawa 125. I hit my Dad up for a motorcycle, since a number of my friends were getting one and we had a motorcycle shop in our family (Granddad's Sold & Serviced Indians, originally) and he said if I graduated that year (13 or 14yrs old). So, time came and we went to Granddad's shop and Dad told me it was upstairs. sending me up there 3 times and when I came down the last time, he said "It is up there, You just have to put it together!" Only thing I didn't have to put together, were the wheels. I was irritated at first, but a few years later, I realized just what a valuable Learning Experience he had given me. But, I built it up, pure stock.   BTW, if you are on either or both of them, look me up, same username, bill440cars.  ;)

I agree about the red ones. My CL77 was one of them. I just loved that color combination, red with a silver frame.

I bought a new CB77 blue with white frame in 67.

The dealer said Honda made him take a bunch of solid white ones and he couldn't sell them, so he painted the tank, fenders and sidecovers electric blue.

$700 and change out the door, he took my last red cent, and I thought I got a heck of a deal!

I was never so happy to be so broke!

Never saw one with a white frame. Back in 67-68, was when I was stationed inJapan, while in the Air Force and I tried to find one to buy. Ended up with a '66 CB72. It was pretty cool, but not a 305, though I started building on it and was hoping to get a cylinder and piston, to make it a 305 and almost made it, but then got shipped out. My luck.
