cb400f coil wiring questions
« on: July 03, 2016, 05:50:24 PM »
I have downloaded all the manuals on this site and my read my own book, none of which say how the coils should be wired. They currently have no wires hooked up to them, just a male spade connector. There are 2 wires that go to each of them (black/white and yellow for one, black/white and blue for the other), the coils have a + and - label on each (although I don't think they have polarity from my understanding of coils).

So my question, which wires go to positive and negative, and which wire (blue and yellow) go to which coil (1 and 4, 2 and 3)

BLK/WHT is power from your handlebars.
BLUE is from the ignition plate to your left side coil, serving cylinders 1& 4.
Yellow goes to the right side coil, serving cylinders 2 & 3.
BL and YL are connected to the - side of the coil.

But its true, coils don't have polarity on these bikes, so as long as you connect the wires the same orientation on both coils, it won't matter.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis
