i think some people react to fiberglass embedded in the skin differently, and call that "being allergic." i've worked with plenty of guys who will handle fiberglass insulation all day long with no gloves or long sleeves. the #$%* drives me crazy if i so much as look at it...

Oh I'll agree with that. The stuff drives me batty. But I'm not "allergic" to it. I just don't like itchy irritated skin.

Long sleeves and gloves in addition to a respirator are a must. The glass cloth mentioned earlier is a far cry from pink insulation tho.

solarcain makes fiberglass work bearable.
unless you have a lot of hair on your arms very sticky duct tape will also give relief

Used to work where I was constantly around insulation, was ready to quit till I found a can of solarcain in the picnic box. Then it became bearable. Stll ended up quitting but for other reasons.

This is exactly what I was hoping for when I started this thread.  Thanks for all the suggestions and references.  I have never done work with fiberglass before, so I will have to do some practice rounds before I just ruin a perfectly good seat pan.  ;D

Thanks a bunch!  cleveland

i agree, but the chop matt is still some pretty messy stuff compared to the cloth. the cloth is woven, and barely resembles fiberglass in the hated form. i wore all the suggested safety equipment, but i don't even think it was necessary until i was cutting and sanding the dry edges.

I have had some good results using aircraft grade woven fiberglass cloth. I've a got a 3.7 oz cloth, about the thickness, texture and weave tightness of a standard bedsheet. It follows curves much better than either mat or looser weave cloth. I got mine on ebay for about $30.00.

Aircraft Spruce and Specialty has all sorts of great composite stuff.
