2 close calls today
« on: August 31, 2016, 03:33:24 PM »
2 times today I was almost involved in someone else's wreck on the main drag in my town.  The first happened on my way to school when a truck rear ended the box truck behind me and almost pushed them in to me, and the 2nd was some idiot making a right from the left lane hit the car in front of me.  I realy hate the start of school and all the new students it brings in to town.

Part of why I take my truck to class not the bike but parking would definitely be easier with a bike

Its been really dry here.  no rain for quite a while.   Oil builds up on the roads.
Not so bad while it stays dry, but any small bit of rain creates all sorts of slippery roads.
Glad you were not injured....stay safe.

Good that you are here posting, Mantree, and not in a cast in a hospital, and your CB is in one piece. At least they weren't trying to run you down. And as we all know, there is no forgiveness in a MC accident.

I had a sloppy driver try to get me last time out. She made a wide right turn on red and came halfway into the lane I was in, coming straight at me. My son was following close behind on his Suzy. If we had been there a half second earlier........?????...... but I saw her coming and stopped well short, and she recovered her position. I blasted my horn as she passed, but no time for finger.

A good horn is mandatory for safety. OEM horn on a CB750 or other bikes is a joke!
I installed a cheap double snail horns  that sounds enough for the car driver to notice.
I have a new and better waiting to be installed. Stebel Nautilus chromed version (still plastic)

Although I have a stocker, I am all for loud horns, but a horn can only do so much. A loud horn wouldn't have helped you at all Mantree, and I just sounded mine in protest.

Like I said I always leave over a cars length ahead of me and normally try to keep a open exit ahead of me at lights (back when I was riding a dual sport I once whent over the curb at a light to avoid a rear ending)

Damn, you all live in dangerous places.
Here a traffic jam is 3 cars or more at a stop sign. Only 1 light in town, and
yes, people run the red light all the time, so I stay away from there.

Mantree, I'd give an arm and a leg for a 100 mile ride starting in Fort Collins. But I'd get out of town just as quick as I could and up into the mountain roads. I have been twice with my CB to Colorado. I have been drooling over the COBDR ride, http://www.backcountrydiscoveryroutes.com/COBDR,
It might be too much for my tired old self.

Here at home, I live in suburban Detroit, and I don't ride around town, I don't ride crosstown, I get out of town, two or three counties away into the farmlands, along the rivers and around the lakes, through the state land. Just trying to make a safer ride.

Yesterday, my son and I had as nice a ride as can be had around here. 140 miles through the countryside, the weather was perfect, and most everybody had picked up and went north for the long weekend.
