Topic: New guy with CB650c looking for answers

Hi all, Jeff here just bought a CB650sc in good stock condition with 14k miles. I'm in the SF bay area.
The Bike runs OK especially once I plugged the open vacuum leak that was supposed to go to the petcock diaphragm.
Next challenges will be figuring out the charging system low output and fixing the leaking Valve cover gasket. I guess these were recalled for leaky gaskets. Hoping to get some help to solve these things and go ride.

Jeff (slabhappy), welcome and be sure to get the service manuals and electribal diagrams from tech area. Wouldn't be a bad idea to get Clymer manual as well. Point for leaky valve cover gasket. Most after markets often require minor drilling to fit flush. Let me know if you need any other tips.

I was able to fix a leaky valve cover gasket by soaking it overnight in a bag with transmission stop leak. just don't leave it to long, or it will swell up huge!

Thanks Lazy  I have a Factory Shop Manual that came with the Bike, also the Sales Brochure for my model and the full 1983 Honda line Brochure.

I saw there was a recall for leaky valve cover gaskets so this might be a challenge, I'm thinking with Hydraulic valves comes higher oil pressure.

Michael , That sounds strange as I wonder how it will seal once soaked. been asking around and there are some products made in Japan and sold by Toyota and others that are used for pesky seals like Subaru valve cover gaskets. I will probably go that way first.
